sorta ot as well i guess... does anyone know why it takes them about 4 months to mark all the tests and get the results? The whole idea of the answers on those sheets of paper is that a computer marks them, right? How long can that take? :P

Its a little old bachan sitting in a dusty office in some government building, checking them by hand, and pausing a lot to drink green tea and suck sembeis really loudly.

Because first, apparently, the Japan Foundation has to actually decide on what the right answers are for the questions. You'd think they might do this before giving the exam! Anyway, here is a link explaining some of this year's excitement. And on a side note: as if being blind was not tough in and of itself, the Braille test-takers had higher minimum passing scores this year, since their edition of the test was screwed up less than the printed version.

The whole idea of the answers on those sheets of paper is that a computer marks them, right? How long can that take? :P

Actually, though, the 2004 December results are already out. May take some time to arrive if you're overseas, but I got mine over a week ago.

Does she do the Braille ones, too? That could explain the delay.

I think every year is about the same -- early December. Not sure of the exact date for 2005 though.

Is it only once a year?
The bloody eiken is every three months!

I think I might try for level 2 too. I actually passed level 3 in 1991 but haven't studied since!

I got a 57% my previous 2-kyu. :? This was after 10 months of living in Japan and studying, without any prior studying.

I'll look at the bright side, though -- next time I try it, I'll be able to pass, hopefully, and with a much higher percentage!
