Japanese Birth Control Inquiry

Postby aquamarine » Wed Feb 16, 2005 6:56 pm

Just a personal inquiry here folks, no articles, no amazingly new ways to prevent births or the such... here goes.

I have been with my girlfriend for quite a while. I don't enjoy using condoms, she doesn't either, it's a mutual distaste I don't care if there are any Dr. Ruth's out there on FG, we just do not like using them as it sort of spoils the mood "ohh yea,... ohhhh yea... ohhhh... no sorry honey, we can't go further, I need to turn on the light, and go and get a condom. Give me a minute will you? I need to dry my hands now and open the package... god damnit... stupid slippery plastic... Got it! Oh wait hon... I'm trying to put it on backwards.... OK, there we go, OUCH IT PULLED A HAIR!"

So we needless to say, we don't like'm. Now, she doesn't want to use the pill since she needs to take it every day. What other forms of birth control are available in Japan? Back in Canada we have the pill, the condom, diaphram, Inoxil-9 (gel you inject inside her vagina) and Deprovera (sp?) which is an injection via needle.

Are there other forms of which are available?

Hehe, you can get the "pipe cut" done.

Seriously though, the pill is your best bet. Diaphragms are available here but are not recommended for a woman who has never had children.

Nonoxynol 9 is not good enough on its own, and I'm not sure if you can get it here or not. Also tastes unbelievably bad!

And you know the joke about what you call folks who don't user proper protection right....? Parents. ;)

I tend to agree with FGL. There is absolutely nothing wrong with pill. Assuming your GF is Japanese it's more likely she is worried about the stigma attached to the pill rather than taking it everyday. It's really no hassle at all.
Costs about 3000 yen a month, so not too pricey either. The only real bother is that Japanese doctors insist on a physical which has absolutely no medical necessity.

Also, be responsible and get a check-up as well. Pregnancy is not the only STD remember. Chlamydia is on the rise again.

Laugh about that option if you want, but it's one of the best decisions I ever made.

I still use condoms every single time for protection, but should I find somebody who's worthy of a strictly one-on-one relationship, I'm set to go with no worries at all. :)

That's true. Though if you opt for the pill they will normal give an STD check. Chlamydia is a problem becaause it rarely shows symptoms with females.

Same thing in Canada. Generally when you first start, then again after 6 months, and thereafter once a year.

It's a good thing if you ask me.

Poppin' pills

Postby Mike Oxlong » Thu Feb 17, 2005 1:48 am

In my experience, a lot of Japanese ladies are worried about the possible side-effect of water retention when taking the pill (may gain a kilo or two)...

The docs/media/gullible ladies all over the country really play this up. Wow! A whole kilo! You'll go from cocaine thin to lard-ass in no time!!

I hear your pain and understand your troubles with condoms... hate em myself... so I don't use them. My girl and I haven't used them for 5 years... and we can do so cuz, gulp, we trust each other and actually are monogamous. That said we didn't want no buns in the oven so I get all porn star on her and try to shoot for anything but her hair.
The pill does have side effects and she wouldn't take it... not that it's 100% effective (I have a friend with only one ovary left, the other removed, on the pill and she's been knocked up twice accidentally). My GF always used the argument that she shouldn't be solely responsible for birth control especially if it involves taking drugs. Well put.
I gotta figure that the fear of the pill + the hatred of condoms resulting in men having to pull out is the reason that Japan excels in "Bukkake" films. :bukkake:

Actually, funny you should mention that.....

We both just got a case of it cleared up. I caught it from a fucking (not fucked) gaijin girl that I worked with. Stupid dirty Canadian-Indian girls. Now that being said, I used a condom, but NOT when performing oral. Stupid me. (and for the record, this was before I started going out with my girlfriend)

ahem.... STD's are chicken and egg.. you can't only blame the girl you picked it up from because she probably didn't even know, but from the person she picked it up from and so on and so on...

But I hope you told her so she can sort herself out. Chlamydia can cause sterility if left untreated and is usually asymptomatic. My cousin can never have children due to an undiagnosed case from when she was a teenager.

Fortunately, I have never had any STD's but they are more common than you think...

The pill is very effective *IF* it is used properly. If your friend was slack about the taking times or if she was not careful about other meds then the pill is far less effective. Some meds conflict and render it essentially ineffective. I've never met someone who took their pills properly and was careful about meds but still got pregnant. It has been proven to be about 99% effective.

Watcher wrote:My GF always used the argument that she shouldn't be solely responsible for birth control especially if it involves taking drugs. Well put.

So instead she makes you solely responsible to not miss-time things? If I was her I'd certainly be taking pills...

There are dozens or more different types of pill. Some may cause side effects for your gf, but there will be one that basically will not.

It is much better than the "oh shit... what do we do now" feeling, or even the monthly wait for her period to start.

You beat me to it! I totally agree GG... Who do you blame, especially if the person you got it from didn't know?

Is it her fault for not using proper precautions with her ex-bf? Your fault for not taking proper precautions? The fault of her ex-bf for not telling her when he (probably) found out? Or a little of each?

I recently read that a man who had his foreskin removed as a baby is seven times less likely to get HIV than a man who is 'whole'. Also there is a big reduction in the incidence of cervical cancer in women. This owing to the fact that the foreskin itself can contain some virus that instigate the cancer. I pitty all those who weren't 'cut' as a baby. 8)

I'm telling you, IUD. The coil. No side effects, no drugs, once it's in, you don't have to change it for 5 years.

On a good day, you can pick up FM radio...!

Here is the bit about cervical cancer.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/women/2002-04-11-cervical.htm

So, to all the chicks out there, dont bang any men who aint circumsized. 75% of men arent so that gives us 'clean' men more opportunities

Weren't there some problems with scaring in some women though?

I was on the pill for a year and a half. I didn't feel sick or anything and didn't get pregnant, but it sucks. I totally lost my sex drive. I don't know if this is an unusual side-effect or not. I would guess because the pill imitates pregnancy. I now have the IUD. Insertion is horrible though, when the doctor put it in he gave me no painkiller and I fainted from the pain. I believe it's because usually only women who have children use the IUD and the uterus has already been stretched out and doctors here expect you to gaman. The string sticking out of the cervix is kind of odd, but my boyfriend said he could not feel it during sex. Also periods are very heavy and last for over 10 days for the first few months.
