There's a non-smoking KFC next to Christ's grave in Aomori

 http://www.thiaoouba.com/tomb.htm

In 1935, Kiyomaro Takeuchi discovered 1900 year old document stored in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, containing evidence, that Jesus (Joshua) born in Bethlehem to virgin Mary is buried in Herai Village in Aomori district of Japan. The document contained also Jesus will, requesting that his brother's tomb to be located next to his. The document was SO authentic and news so explosive at the time, that the Japanese government banned the document from public view and kept it locked in a museum in Tokyo. During World War II Tokyo was severely bombed and the museum with all documents was allegedly destroyed. Luckily, Takeuchi family made copies of the document before surrendering it to officials. Copies preserved by the Takeuchi family survived to this day.

All Starbucks are non-smoking and they have started to introduce non-smoking taxis.

In other coffee shops, different floors are smoking and non-smoking. Even as a smoker, I often go to the non-smoking places to eat.

Tsukiji sushi

Postby ketchupkatsu » Thu Jul 28, 2005 4:24 pm

The Tsukiji Kaiten sushi restaurant next to Coco Curry House in Shibuya is non smoking.

don't know if it is the policy or if it is the fact that they only give you 20 minutes to eat 7 to 10 plates that keep people from smoking.

Now I think of it, most kaiten sushi places I know are non-smoking. The only exception I could think of is the one up there at Dogenzaka across the street from gaspanic #2

No smoking

Postby Greji » Thu Jul 28, 2005 4:59 pm

Copying the trends, but not wanting to say no to a customer, a lot of restaurants, especially if they do a lot of booze sales, will not have ashtrays out and the assumption is that they are no smoking at the casual glance. However, if you ask for an ashtray, it will appear magically and its puffing away as usual. The places that serve liquor with food/meals in Japan will almost always be smoking or have a smoking area.

Yomiuri: No smoking, please! Bars offer smoke-free pleasure
Although the Health Promotion Law enacted in 2003 calls for steps to prevent passive smoking in public places and facilities used by many people, there are still many restaurants at which diners have to put up with secondhand smoke due to a failure to provide adequate separation between nonsmoking and smoking areas. At the same time, though, some bars have banned smoking in their establishments by customers and staff. Among them is a Tokyo shot bar, Quay, a five-minute walk from Shinjuku Gyoenmae Station. Makoto Kobayashi, 54...opened the small 11-seat bar last year after he quit his job as a company employee. "I wanted people to savor the rich aroma of whiskey in an environment with clean air," he said. "Although we don't serve many varieties of wine, many wine lovers come here, saying that they've been wanting to taste wine without the smell of cigarettes."
...For those who want to search for information on nonsmoking eating and drinking establishments, there is a Web site, named Kin-en Style (Japanese) that provides information on about 1,600 restaurants and bars across the nation. Takuya Iwasaki, 25, a freelance Web engineer living in Osaka, launched the site in May last year. "I often had difficulty finding nonsmoking restaurants for lunch and dinner, so I decided to start the Web site," he said. At first, there were fewer than 100 establishments listed on the site. But Iwasaki later received information relating to more than 1,000 establishments from Bun-en Shakai o Mezasu Kai, a Tokyo-based civic group campaigning to promote the introduction of closed-off smoking spaces...more...
