Fellow Curators? Art lovers? Tips and upcoming shows?

Postby sugarboots » Sun Feb 27, 2005 11:29 am

Hello, i'm new to the forum. i actually just moved to tokyo on friday! and i'm here for the year. I'm looking to curate some art shows here in Tokyo, but am a little lost at where to start since there is SO MUCH here. any tips would be helpful if there are any other curators out there. I don't speak japanese and I know sponsorship for shows is sort of a big deal here, which might make things difficult...

any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

What kind of shows are you putting together? What areas interest you most?

You weren't too clear on whether you're trying to bring shows to Japan, or setting up shows of Japanese art to take outside the country. I've seen some big grants by The Japan Foundation to sponsor exhibits, but they're mostly focused on bringing Japanese art to other countries. BTW, what country are you from?

thanks for the responses so far.
i'm from america and i'm trying to bring outside artists into tokyo.

i'm into up-and-coming artists and progressive art, however, the first show i'm thinking about would be a street artist who has a following here in Tokyo.
