OKINAWA! (&ugly offpoint)

Postby karekora » Mon Feb 28, 2005 8:45 pm

hope i dont affend anyone here, but it amuses me how loads of white guys, who wouldnt be looked twice at in there native countries manage to pick up some good looking Japanese girls. Even my Japanese friends seem to favour ugly white guys... in fact, the ugly the guy, the more beautiful the girl on his arm.

anyway, to the main point of my post...

im going okinawa for the weekend. thats 2 whole days based in naha. Ive read the guide book and what it says you should see blah blah blah, but has anybody here been? As Ive got only 2 days, what would you recommend? (shuri castle, war memorials?, gyokusedno cave, mihama, okinawa world, manzamo.....)

Im into sightseeing :) stunning views are a plus :)

As the Oscars were just on, why not make a short documentary about this theory of yours about ugly caucasians males' ability to nampa gorgeous J-ladies.

You could start with some research on this board - just type in some appropriate search terms and see if the topic has ever been mentioned before. You may find some helpful data.

Then just wander around the island identifying suitable couples and, after informing them of their status, interview them.

And just remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder ...

... your good eye, that is.

Everyone's beautiful on the inside. Don't be so hard on yourself.

I have lived many years in Okinawa. I was there when when NAHA had a big NAHA AIRBASE....my recent stay was from 81-84. I think a lot has changed...

A few thingw, and I hope I do not offend anyone:
1. You probably know that Okinawa was an american territory up until the 72 when Okinawa became Japan. That was a heck of a time....I was ten and 60K Japanese police came to okinawa...why, because they had to start driving on the other side of the road. LOLOL and then they switched from US$ to Yen. That took some time....

2. Okinawans have their own 'HOGEN'...meaning they have their own language. They all speak Japanese and some speak english fairly well.

3. They customs are different...example: Their formal dance is their own. Their costumes and hair dress is different as well.

4. You may beable to use US$ in some places...or maybe not.

5. I dont know the attitude they have about Japanese today, but many of the older folks did not like Japan. It is similar to Taiwan being the ROC. They wanted their own country, but unfortunately they were a US Territory and now they are Japan. This is not so much of a comparison, but I would also say it is like Hawaii to the Mainland US.

6. I know that there are groups that want the US bases to leave. In my days, they woud demonstrate in front of the gates and caused quite a stir. I am not sure how they feel about americans, heck some of the young punks in the military have really given them a bad impression of americans as well.

6. THERE ARE GREAT PLACES IN OKINAWA: Moon Beach, Four Season Steak house, the memorial for Okinawans that were killed by the Japanese. I forgot the name of the cliff, but they actually had a new memorial put up. I would drive on the main road and make a full run of the island.

7. If you are a scuba diver like me, YOU WILL BE IN HEAVEN. Their coral reefs are BEAUTIFUL. They also have tours by boats to other islands you may want to look into.

ENJOY and dont get to baked. OH YES, you will love the gecko there. They are adorable and like to make a lot of noise. Dont be afraid the of flying cockaroaches..they are harmless (a little humor here)

BTW, regarding the looks. I do see that sometimes. But, my dad was a great looking guy. (mom is Japanese). It could be a number of things. Heck, I see very wealthy men in the US who are ugly and they have a beautiful woman hanging on their arms as well. Case in point Trump and his new wife LOL

Dont know what other women will think, however most of my friends are attracted to : Confidence with a touch of cockiness, sense of humor. laid back (no drama kings please), intelligent kind of guy.

Anyone can look great if they carry themselves well. Heck I was attracted to a short, big ass head/balding guy who was the VP and CIO of a large company. He may have been short, but he walked like he was 7 feet tall. His personality was awesome....That goes for women as well. looks are only skin deep, the prettiest girl can be a rotten person on the inside....same with the most handsome guy....GO HAVE FUN AND ENJOY YOUR TIME

Wise words Mel - guys take note

Besides, the very qualities Mel described above are not present in the majority of Japanese TYPICAL (there are a lot of exceptions) males.

Coupled with the exotic foreigner factor (lets face it we all get sick of seeing the same old faces) and you can maybe understand the apparent success.

One thing you missed Mel for a guy is having a plan where they are going in the future. The reason I say this is it reminds of a funny line in Big Daddy where Adam Sandler's ex starts seeing this old guy, mainly because she is sick of Sandler's insecurity (TM).

When Sandler questions her motives she says, "He has a five-year plan", Sandler replies with "What, stay alive?" You really had to be there...
