Tokyo - A 38-year-old truck driver in Japan's northwestern Niigata prefecture was arrested on Thursday for allegedly making more than 10 000 prank calls to a telephone directory at Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp, police authorities said.
Instead of asking for telephone numbers, Kengo Terauchi asked female operators indecent questions as well as asking them out on dates...
Terauchi has been making such prank calls since February last year and made as many as 1,000 phone calls per day to the call centre using his cellphone.

A friends' girlfriend used to work in the KDD call center a few years ago and it could be reached from Ireland via a freephone number. Once he returned to Ireland, he would make several hit-or-miss calls until he got through to her

They jokingly suggested to me - I should call it to practice my Japanese:

1,000 calls a day sounds pretty urban legendy to me. Assuming he was phoning for 12hours of a day that would make most calls about 30 seconds. Also, I couldn't find any source of the story that was closer to home.
