English Dictionary Software

Hey all,
A Japanese friend of mine has a program called the Macmillan Essential Dictionary (http://www.macmillandictionary.com/aboutcd.htm). They bought it in Japan about a year ago.
The main advantage of this program is that when you look up a word, it gives the pronunciation for the word in both American English and British English.

But yeah.. for some unknown reason.. she got a new laptop, and the program just doesn't want to work on it.

So.. does anyone know of any other English Dictionary software which does the same sort of thing? Thanks.

Can't help you on a laptop version.. but for keitai's there is This

Prounciation sound files (that can be saved out as ring tones) in American english only but hopefully British English is coming soon.

Sound File examples

Naturally this version is targeted at Japanese native speakers but there is also an English only version simply titles "American Heritage Dictionary" available from the English official menus on all three carriers.

Despite the title, the Macmillan English Dictionary for Advanced Learners of American English features both American and British pronunciations.

The Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English also has British and American pronunciations.

I run both on Win2000 (Jpns) with no problems (though you'll need virtual CD drive software so you don't have to keep inserting CDs). I can only imagine the program not working if it's really old. Otherwise, there's sure to be a patch for XP on the CD or you can run the dict in Win2000-compatible mode.
