The Asahi (no link) wrote:Web portal Excite Japan has introduced an assembly kit of a modern version of a chashitsu, a room for formal Japanese tea ceremonies. Created by noted industrial designer Toshiyuki Kita, the Nijo Kekkai kit, which comprises 12 1.8-metre wooden beams with traditional Wajima-nuri lacquer treatment and two tatami mats, forms an open structure. Purists shouldn't scoff. The structure inspires the same enigmatic tension as the real thing, the company says. Order online here. Price 1.05 million yen.
