Housing in Japan

Postby spyder » Tue Mar 22, 2005 4:13 pm

Hey all. Long time reader, first time poster. This site has been so helpful to me.

OK, here's the deal. I need to find someone to live in Japan for 3 months, from the end of May onwards. I have tried places such as Sakura House, and this seems awesome, but I will be living with my girlfriend who is a Japanese national, and they only allow Foeigners.

I have also found other places, but they have shared bed rooms/coin operated showers etc, which I'm not down with.

I want to find something in the Tokyo area, the is reasonable prices (maybe 110,000 per month or so) and that has private facilities etc. Somewhere secure is also preferable :)

Tokyoapartments.jp is good, but pretty expensive. It has everything I want though, such as no utilitie costs, no key charge etc.

Thank you so much for your help guys/gals, much appreciated!!!!

Hmm, a host being... Not sure if you'll get much help here, even if we are all aliens... ;)

:lol:

I think you mean 'somewhere' not someone to live in.

Try Leopalace, they have apartments they rent out on a weekly basis. Furnished, not too expensive and they have anything from 1K to 3LDK.

You said you "need to find someone to live in Japan for 3 months" when you most likely meant 'somewhere.'

You also said you, "will be living with my girlfriend who is a Japanese national, and they only allow Foeigners." Us Hoeingners normally get their Japanese girl- or boyfriends to find the first apartment. Have her try all the "Apartment Hotels" like O123 Corp.

I posted this site before in the Tatami Forum

A mate of mine found a place through it which he was pretty happy with.

Just couldn't resist poking a bit of fun...

Good luck, I hope you find somewhere suitable without too much trouble.

Cheers!

Your J-girlfriend is probably a good source of info about this. ;)

The first number is the number of "non-specific" or "general use" rooms (ie sleeping, junk storage...). These can vary in size from 4.5 tatami to 6 tatami or (unlikely in any sort of afforable building) larger.

D = Dining
LD = Living/Dining
K = Kitchin

1K = 1 room (usually rather small) + a tiny kitchen likely with a single electric element.
2DK = 2 rooms + a combined dining room/kitchen
3LDK = 3 rooms + a living/dining/kitchen room.

Typically a room labeled "LDK" is larger than one labeled "DK".

You may also see things such as 3LD+K which means the kitchen is separate from the Living/Dining room.

You really don't want to know.
1K = 2x4m prison cell with a place for a kitchen on one wall
1DK = 2.5x5 m concrete cage with a ship's galley and room for two small bar stools
1LDK = 3x5.5 m luxury padded cell with kitchen for anybody insane enough to be willing to pay for the pleasure

K = kitchen for midgets
DK = kitchen for fat midgets
1 DK = one room with adjoining semi-seperate kitchen area
1 LDK = one "Living room" with adjoining semi-seperate kitchen

haha I hear you there bro! I have been to Japan a few times, and I know it can be rather small to say the least. This is the first time I have lived like this though (before was living with Japanese friends), hence the abundance of questions!

You want to consider the 3LDK. More information can be found here

So.... I live in an oversize 2 LDK meaning I live in a two bedroom concrete-cage cum apartment (55sq/m or 400 sqft).

That's so true. I lived in a 1k with my wife for about a year. It almost drove me batty, nay...it just made me more batty. It had a tiny bathroom were you had to hook one leg under the sink as you took a crap, the kitchen had one shitty little electric hotplate that never got water past simmer and a little bar fridge that after you put your six pack in there was no room for food AND you could also hear the conversation going on next door. Couple this with the fact that everytime you had an argument there was nowhere to go to avoid each other, aaaaaarrrggghhhhh. :hehe:
