Richard Gere's Mug is plastered all over Tokyo in billboards for men's salon "Dandy House" and also for the "I Love New Tokyo" campaign - see the Tokyo Towers site. However, I was interested to see that all the billboards mention in tiny print that Gere is donating his fees for this work to his public charity Healing the Divide and also his Gere Foundation which seems very laudable, whatever you think of the man and his causes. Although it's on their adverts, this doesn't seem to get a mention on the Dandy House site which instead has some dinky "men's esthe" graphics

I think he got US$500,000 for the Dandy House ads, if memory serves. Not bad for two days work.

Madonna likes Tokyo property, too...
MADONNA PROMOTES TOKYO PROPERTY
MADONNA is starring in an advertising campaign for an exclusive new high rise development in Tokyo, Japan. Real estate developer BRILLA MARE ARIAKE is building an exclusive tower on the Tokyo bay front and asked the pop star to appear in his new advertising campaign. The commercial, which was directed by the HUNG UP singer's friend and frequent photographer, STEVEN KLEIN, was filmed last week (ends26JAN07) in London. The 48-year-old also appears in a new campaign for retail clothing company H&M, and has helped to design all the items in the M by Madonna line.

Indian Court Issues Warrant for Gere
http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2007/04/26/ap3656076.html
A court issued arrest warrants for Hollywood actor Richard Gere and Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty on Thursday, saying their kiss at a public function "transgressed all limits of vulgarity," media reports said.

Last week, crowds in several Indian cities burned effigies of the 57-year-old star of "An Officer and a Gentleman," "American Gigolo" and "Pretty Woman" after he embraced Shetty and kissed her several times on her cheeks during an HIV/AIDS awareness event in the Indian capital.

I saw the video of his kisses on her cheek. I think the way he did it it would be considered offensive by Western standards as well (but not worthy of an arrest).

A display of promiscuity at an event that supposed to promote health safety (not excluding: abstinence)....?

I was sitting a few feet away from him during a hearing on Tibet in Wash-DC.
A third of the audience were Tibetan, but a lobbiest sitting next to me pointed out a Chinese diplomat with a camcorder.
Congressman Wu (the 'Klingons have taken over the whitehouse' guy) was there - which I found cool.
Didnt get to meet Gere, but I did meet Hillary Clinton & Ted Kennedy about half an hour later.

Germany takes that one.
