Very Funny manga

Postby Pencilslave » Mon Apr 18, 2005 4:10 pm

I've been reading scanlations of Yui Toshiki's latest series Boku No Futatsu No Tsubasa and it's one of the funniest things I've seen.

Hiromi Ichimaru is excited because her cute boy cousin, Makoto Kashiwagi
is coming to live with her. They'd met nine years previously when they were both six and Hiromi was visiting her grandfather who Makoto was living with then. Buuut, Hiromi gets a bit of a surprise, when Makoto arrives-Makoto's a girl. Well, not exactly....

Makoto is a hermaphrodite! The manga chiefly concerns Makoto trying to get through her teenage years with both sets(and both are fully functional-she has her first period and wet dream at the same time. 8O ) and Hiromi trying to help Makoto, while trying to understand and cope with her cousin and her unique situation.(The series isn't hentai, but is very ecchi flavored.)

You lucky dogs who live in Japan can pick it up at the local manga shop.
The first four volumes have been released, and it's currently being serialized in Ultra Jump. For those of us who are outside Japan and are still deficient in our Kanji and Kana comprehension, you can check out free scanlations of the first 12 chapters(Volume 1 and 7-12 of volume two here: http://www.adtrw.org. (Btw, this isn't a commercial, I just love the series and like to spread the word about it.)

I've ordered volumes 1-3 from http://www.chibitokyo.com. They were out of stock of volumes 1 and 3, but they've sent me volume 2 and are going to send me 1 and 3 when they're back in stock(Alas, it'll take a month.)

I got impatient and ordered another copy of volume 3 and a copy of volume 4 from Sasuga Books out of Massachushusets(http://www.sasugabooks.com) Sasuga was out of volume 3, but they did have volume four in and it came in the mail today(They're gonna send me volume 3 when it comes in.). I also got the February issue of Ultra Jump today from Animenation out of Tampa Florida.

Sasuga seems to be the best company out of all three, though Chibitokyo is pretty good at answering customer queries.

As for other favorites, I've been getting into Kouta Hirano's Hellsing. I also like Ai Yori Aoshi,Steel Angel Kurumi, Negima-Magi Negister Magi,, a little bit of the Evangelion-Girlfriend of steel manga(or as some folks call it it Love Eva),Love hina,Excel Saga, and Mahoromatic to name a few.

I've only read a little bit of scanlated stuff though, Love Eva and Boku no being among them.

shame Dr. Slump never got translated in English.. [think it got done in spanish and german tho..] thats one series i always wanted to get into.

as for contemporary gag manga, i love the work by Ippongi Bang, she's pretty damn good, with great background detail/goofs that remind me of stuff like whizzer and chips et al
