My summer bonus present will probably be an A3 Canon ink printer -- i9110 I think? The top 8-color sucker with archival quality inks.

You might want to check out some of the US computer magazine sites such as PC World and PC Mag. The magazines in general kinda suck, but they do have some decent test results for printers and scanners. Also some of the photo mags do printer reviews which focus heavily on colour accuracy.

Finally, unless the convenience of home printing is the most important feature for you, printing 4x6 size at a large camera shop will probably be cheaper (and certainly less fuss) than dealing with ink and paper at home. Once you get to larger sizes though ink jet gets a lot cheaper than photo labs.
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

I second this...if you are just doing snap shots, unless you are just printing one or two, I've found it is much faster, easier & cheaper to get them printed out at self service machines at the camera shops than doing them on a home printer.
The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.
