SAN GABRIEL - A Pasadena man found naked and bloody on a roof near an apartment where his girlfriend was found stabbed to death was arrested, authorities said Sunday. George Wood Pigman IV, 23, was booked for investigation of murder and was being held on $1 million bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday. The body of Eimi Yamada, a 21-year-old student from Japan studying in the United States, was found early Saturday morning in an apartment in an unincorporated area near San Gabriel, Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies said. The deputies found Pigman on the roof of a home less than a quarter-mile away "totally nude, with blood on his body," sheriff's Lt. Gil Carillo said. Investigators said that Pigman's identification card and other evidence linking him to the crime were found in the woman's apartment. Neighbors told KABC (Channel 7) that they had often seen Pigman skateboarding in the neighborhood, and that they had heard the couple arguing.

SIX lives were lost in car accidents during a tragic weekend on Queensland roads. Two teens died in a crash on a busy Gold Coast street after a birthday party on Saturday night. The car in which they were travelling collided with a utility on Murtha Drive, Elanora, about 11.30pm. Fifteen-year-old Matthew Fraser was killed when he was thrown from the car. A 16-year-old girl, believed to be a Japanese exchange student, was also killed. [She] had recently returned from a visit home to Japan, friends said.

I remember some years ago working at a Japanese company when the news came through that one of our employees had been hit by a drunk driver in the US while she was out walking. She was on study leave which was very rarely given out and virtually never to female employees. It quickly became apparent that she had serious head injuries and would lose both her legs. I remember my co-workers hoping that she would not regain consciousness because they couldn't imagine how she and her family would be able to cope. She did regain consciousness. One of the best letters I have ever received was a few years later with photographs of her in rehabilitation learning to walk and with her family on the beach. She was planning to move back to the US.

Pigman is, I suppose, an invented name. (No reference to it in the Dictionary of Surnames). Drugs or insane I assume. With a name like that insane is a good bet.

AP: Calif. man convicted of Japanese student slaying

A 27-year-old man was convicted of first-degree murder Monday in the 2005 killing of his girlfriend, a Japanese student who was studying English. Jurors deliberated one day before finding George Wood Pigman IV guilty of fatally beating and stabbing Eimi Yamada, 21, with barbecue tongs. Yamada's body was found in the bathroom of her rented home in the San Gabriel Valley just after 2 a.m. on May 7, 2005. Yamada had come to the United States to study at Pasadena's Poly Languages Institute. Deputies found Pigman naked and bloodied on a roof near Yamada's apartment after receiving a report of a prowler. Pigman faces 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced. A sanity trial phase scheduled to begin Monday afternoon will determine whether Pigman spends his sentence in prison or at a mental institution, said Teresa Sullivan, a Los Angeles County deputy district attorney. Pigman's father, George Wood Pigman III, is a professor of English at the California Institute of Technology.
