The 2004 meters high Mega-City-Pyramid TRY 2004, is a partial answer to two important problems : with cities becoming more and more crowded and the environment suffering progressive damage, the time has come for the development of a megacity that functions in harmony with nature. So, the city proposed by the Shimizu Corp.'s engineers represents the ideal form of living for man in harmony with the earth.

This has been on FG before but I couldn't find the thread. If anybody can remember please link it up.

A lot more like the past
look at how stupid and impoverished Egypt looks now

more fucking buillsh*t from the Yakuza construction companies

latest plan to build another 1.56 trillion yen runway coming along fine. KIAC was expected to generate
profits (on a fiscal year basis) within five years, start to pay dividends to
shareholders in nine years, and pay off its debt 23 years after opening. But some are unsure about this
we can't deny the possibility of the whole island
sinking completely into the ocean since it will be built in deeper water and
the level of engineering technology required is even higher," Takada of Osaka Uni said. KIAC
suffered a 23,723 million-yen ($214million at 111 yen/dollar), following
losses after opening, Land reclamation work at the site in Osaka Bay is almost done and the port might stop re-claiming but another 200 billion yen is needed to top it off. The airport operator is carrying a debt load of 1.2 trillion yen and annual interest payments which are weighing down on the entire prefecture

What kind of future is there for Japan's debt ridden airports ?

The LDP have always said that the only way Japan will escape from this 10 year recession is by spending its way out of it, yen injected into the stock market, efforts to reclaim lost land and firms getting bailed out are all part of the old LDP plan, but here is the new one

The LDP have looked at Europe and how many of its roads and rails look much better compared to Japan. The Euro Tunnel, an underwater connection that links the country England with France, increased imports, trade and tourism. Now Japan wants this idea to work to boost Japan trade, construction and tourism.

A super Massive road it will leave Japan to Asia through the Korean Peninsula, past China and on to Istanbul. It could soon be official: The road through Asia begins in Tokyo. Government representatives agreed to make Tokyo the origin of the highway at a meeting here on the so-called Asian Highway earlier this week.
The main start of the Route will run from Tokyo through Fukuoka. It will go to Pusan and run up the Korean Peninsula via Pyongyang, down through the Chinese country, then west all the way to Istanbul. the UN had first launched the Asian Highway project in 1959, but progress stalled in the late 1960s due to wars but its now back on its way again.

Government spending, particularly in large infrastructure projects, have traditionally been used in poor economic times to prop up the economy. Japan has been relying on such projects far too long, and is quickly reaching the state where there will be no more funds to maintain this economic smokescreen. Construction companies are keen to maintain the status quo because they are the ones who profit the most from these projects. Naturally there is massive corruption to keep these projects alive. True, there are jobs created, but these are only temporary.

Soon the whole thing will come crashing down like the house of cards that it is.

I didn't know people took nutcases like Paolo Soleri seriously anymore. I thought this Arcology crap died out back in the 1960s, except with some notorious net.kooks like Doctress Neutopia.

You can say what want about the looks, but I hear those Mega City folks have some fairly effective law enforcement.

Japan Eyes Future Manned Moon Base, Space Shuttle

Japan's plans to start building a manned base on the moon and a manned space shuttle, Japan's space agency, JAXA, is drawing up plans to develop a robot to conduct probes on the moon then begin constructing a solar-powered manned research base on the planet and design a reusable manned space vessel like the U.S. space shuttle

The space agency's budget could be boosted six-fold to $57 billion to assist those plans

Long Asia's leading spacefaring nation, Japan has been struggling to get out from under the shadow of China, which put its first astronaut into orbit in October 2003. Beijing has since announced it is aiming for the moon.

One month after China's breakthrough, a Japanese H-2A rocket carrying two spy satellites malfunctioned after liftoff, forcing controllers to end its mission in a spectacular fireball.
