No, 25 was capped before, now it is dead. 22 and 23 are dead completely. Should be coming back on today. If not, I get to go yell some more :)

I can't speak for the whole of Japan. I've only lived on Okinawa...
so, this is from my biased perspective.

In general, Japan is a great country. In general, the majority of the people are kind folk. On Okinawa there is a great deal of racial tension due greatly to some of the ghastly crimes that have been committed there by the military community, so, often forigners are turned away from enjoying some of the nightlife culture... but that's a little thing.

Positives of mainland Japan...

Kyoto is a beautiful place
Some of the beef is the best I've had
in fact, food in general tends to be great here
McDonald's has some of the hottest women in Japan as employees :)
The keitai revolution is pretty interesting, at least for us Web Dev folk
The gadgets are top notch
And, yes, the train system in Tokyo is easy enough that even folk like me who are used to driving everywhere can figure out how to get to makuhari-messe.

While I may often note the more negative side of Japan, the country does have some truly admirable qualities. Off the top of my head,

10. Set prices, no haggling, and seldom a sense of being cheated
9. Pride of craftsmanship
8. Unrivalled service bordering on servitude
7. Unabashed femininity, though this applies to the guys as well
6. No bothersome tipping
5. No needless religious hang-ups about premarital sex
4. Train service that makes the Germans look slapdash
3. Both DVD and CD rental, thus avoiding all that d/l hassle
2. Gadgetry that would make Q drool in anticipation
1. Beer vending machines, a hallmark of a truly civilized nation

I'm trying to think of something besides the food, but I can't really. I just liked living there and can't really put my finger on why. I guess the nightlife and entertainment in the cities is part of it for me.


BTW, vir-jin, I've been meaning to tell you I love your avatar. There is something very cute about that picture. Not cute in the I-want-to-bend-her-over-my-desk cute way, but cute like a kitten or a teddy bear. I must be getting soft in my old age.

You're a little behind the times. While I did mention the negative attitude towards my state, Alabama does have some Very good things going for it. Birmingham, Alabama has UAB (University of Alabama at Birmingham) which not only has one of the top medical schools in the country, but is also one of the top medical research centers in the world. We also have the Huntsville Space and Rocket center
in Huntsville Alabama which does research for Nasa,and Alabama has contracts with both Mercedez Benz and Honda to manufacture cars.

Not so much defensive, but it gets tiresome having to go to Georgia,Tennesse, or Florida for any good concerts or for anything cool that the major cities have like Atlanta, Nashville, Gatlinburg, and Miami.
I love my state, but we're way behind on things to do here. To sum it up:Comparing any of the major southern cities to Birmingham is like comparing an average city to a wide spot in the road. Jefferson county, where Birmingham's located only has a population of 800'00.

I'm beginning to understand why I want to come visit Japan and especially Tokyo, I'm a small town boy who yearns to see THE BIG CITY

Getting back on topic though, one other thing that bothers me is the posts I've seen here that makes it seem as if Japan is rapist paradis, and that it's dangerous to be a woman in Japan.

I think you should be worried if you find more than two different posters posting articles like that. AFAIK, all of our rape-related articles are posted by blackcat. :idea:

I've lived here for almost seven years and I've never known anyone who was raped. My wife (from Nagoya) remembers that an ex-girlfriend of one of her tennis circle friends was raped back in the early 90's (home invasion-style), but doesn't know of any other incidents personally. Can't believe it's NOT less dangerous than the states, but you'll probably never have accurate stats because rapes are apparently reported less here.

In general, Japan is pretty damn safe, the occasional panty-sniffer or bosozoku excepted... :roll:

I believe that Japan is much safer than America for any kind of crime. But still, I believe in taking reasonable precautions. I'll go out of my way to make sure my wife doesn't walk alone at night same as I would in the States.

What is your definition of this feminity? I am just curious..

Is it:

a) Overall Aesthetic
(not including body size and shape as there as as many fat foreign guys as girls from my latest observations on recent trips to "western countries")

b) Personal grooming/hygiene
(eg haircare - including long hair vs short hair, skincare, makeup, manicures)

c) Fashion
(skirts/dresses vs jeans/pants)

d) Attitude
(eg seen and not heard, foregoing any personal career expectations in favour of wifedom, motherhood etc)

Anything else?

I am really not trolling, I was just wanting to find out the male perspective.

From my perspective, the fashion for J-girls is certainly very different but there are as many skirt/dress wearing girls in other countries too, just not as prissy in the overall aesthetic as here. The "pretty in pink" is a very popular look here and not so much overseas and certainly not in high fashion.

Same goes for haircare, skincare, makeup, manicures. Girls seem to take the same amount of care of themselves (except perhaps in hair removal as waxing is not popular here) but manicure fashions are certainly different. Hairstyles are different too but western girls spend the same amount of time and money on themselves.

Biggest difference I have noticed is in the attitudes and expectations of girls from the different cultures. This topic has been discussed to death already so I won't go into it..

But the subject of what people think is the definition of feminity and pro's and con's of same haven't been.

As a FG-chick it is a subject that is interesting for me and I would be interested to hear the learned opinions of the boys of FG.

For me it is a combination of many of your reasons GG. I find that in general Japanese women dress better, take better care of themselves, and generally are more concerned about apperances than the women I see in Canada or the US. There is also no attitude of "Everyone should accept me just the way I am." here.

This doesn't mean that Japanese women are always better people/better partners. Many are total airheaded bimbos as I am sure you know. But they sure look better, on average.
