I tried those but found them to be not enough of either to be any help. They weren't tight enough to keep my equipment from shakin' around, but they didn't hang loosely on my legs giving that nice boxer feeling.

Tight whites for me. Don't like the little guys bouncing around.

I have a briefcase type bag with shoulder strap accessories to turn it into a backpack. Shoulder straps hide away in a zippered compartment so it looks like your regular work/briefcase bag that you can carry into a meeting.

Something I found out soon after arriving in Japan...Japanese women don't like white underwear on men! Many think that only little boys wear white underwear.

Yeah, but once the tight whites come off that myth is put to rest.
Besides my shorts are not all white, a few yellow and brown patches to add some contrast...

It's just the image... They know you're not a kid, but you look like one. It's the sexual equivalent of using one of those elementary-school backpacks as a briefcase.

I think I have 4... 3 pairs of dress shoes, one pair of runners. Some beach shoes etc too, but they don't really count.

Thankfully I wear about a Japanese 26 or so. Finding shoes here is no problem.

I get my suits/shirts/dress pants taylored though cause I have a 92cm arm and the longest shirt you can get in a normal shop is 88... Legs are long too.

Wow, my Japanese wife wears 24.5 shoes :D For some reason bowling alleys always have shoes I can wear but stores either don't have them, have only sneakers (which I wear maybe 10 times a year) or they have shoes I can wear but can't afford :?

As for backpacks, I use a bright orange backpack with my black suit everyday 8) I don't like the shoulder packs that a lot of Japanese guys use, and I really don't like that I have to remove my backpack on crowded trains, but those guys feel free to let their should bag swing around poke me.

I think you found your own solution! Just wear bowling shoes everywhere. :D

Backpacks block the isle behind where you are standing. Shoulder bags take the space between you and the guy beside you.

I like a good briefcase -- it really sets off a suit well. I notice the difference in the "looks" I get between when I'm slumming it with no jacket/no tie (few/no looks) and when I wear a suit (some more attention from the opposite sex).

Hmmm, you know they are pretty cheap too (compared to other shoes in japan anyway.)

Not if they are standing sideways, or diagonally, and the people I am talking let the damn thing swing. Gets a good, long arc everytime the train starts or stops, and usually manages to nail me right in the small of the back. I'm sure there are tons of threads on here about train "ettiquete" somewhere on this board though. I will go there and throw my complaints on pile.

I like backpacks because they require little to no effort for me to carry. Briefcases require some effort, for my daily grind that is out. I work mondays through saturday, 9-6, so anything that requires the least little bit of extra effort, or causes the slightest extra inconvienence goes right out. I know I look like crap when I go to work with out my tie (usually kept in my desk drawer at work) and my shirt hanging out of my pants, but it's comfortable and once I get to work I have to do the whole "suit thing" for at least hours a day anyway.

Besides I'm married, even if the opposite sex looks I don't have the time/money/energy/freedom to do much about it.

Boxers since I was 12... the last pair of briefs I wore had "teenage mutant hero turtles" on them :)

The 1st time I came to Japan was in the middle of a hot sticky summer - so going commando under a pair of shorts was an obvious choice.
However, sitting, stretched out on the seibu-ikebukero-sen one day - i noticed the people opposite me were all delibrately looking away (bar one or two starers) - i guess i should have worn longer shorts!

Postby guriguri247365 » Thu May 19, 2005 12:55 pm

I use a backpack as well. Need to have a book to read, nihongo books, and other shit. Just feel freakin naked without it.

As far as the interesting underwear thing goes I wear boxer briefs too. Most comfortable. Wearing regular boxers and riding a bike is an invitation for disaster. Dont wanna squish the family jewels!!

Love girls in T-backs. Theyre so sexy. Yet, girls wearing no underwear is even sexier :D

At first I read that as "moron"... Seemed kinda odd.

Now I see it as "mormon" and am even more confused. Why mormon?

In a lot of countrys, including where I am from, it is considered a bit "gay" or "french" to be carying around a back pack.

So nobody really does it, except for its actualy use e.g. camping, etc.

But what we do notice is when Mormon missionaries come over, they all wear the same bad suit, shitty tie, "comfortable" dress shoe, and wear a back pack.

Its the worst combination ever to wear a back pack and suit. An when thoes sutpid fuckers are spoted we stay well clear of them.

When they get up close, to make it even more dire they wear stupid name tag and call themselves "Elder Mark and Brother Peter".

Fucking wankers are trying to indoctrainate from the get go. I dont mind them so much, the ones that I really hate are the ones the try to be your "friends" first. As their goal is to convert you, if you do not, they dont seem so friendly towards you. Which is why you can never be friends with any fundie christian.

Well actually they are Christians as they base their beliefs off the teachings of Christ. They are Latter-day saints which is a spew off of Protestants.

Mormons just happen to be the subject of my all time favorite episode of Southpark!

"Joseph Smith: I found a new testament of Jesus, here in America!
Martin Harris: In America? That sounds kind of...
Chorus: Dum-dum-dum-dum-dum!
Stan: "Why don't we have a night where we do stuff together and not watch TV?"
Randy: "We have that Stan, it's called Friday Night Kegger."

Gary: Look, maybe us Mormons do believe in crazy stories that make absolutely no sense, and maybe Joseph Smith did make it all up, but I have a great life. and a great family, and I have the Book of Mormon to thank for that. The truth is, I don't care if Joseph Smith made it all up, because what the church teaches now is loving your family, being nice and helping people. And even though people in this town might think that's stupid, I still choose to believe in it. All I ever did was try to be your friend, Stan, but you're so high and mighty you couldn't look past my religion and just be my friend back. You've got a lot of growing up to do, buddy. Suck my balls.

Cartman: Damn, that kid is cool, huh?

Lucy Harris: Did you ever think [Joseph Smith] was just making this up?
Chorus: Lucy Harris-smart-smart-smart-smart. Martin Harris-dum-dum-dum

Gary's older brother: "Our faces are painted!"

Stan (Screaming): AND STOP BEING SO HAPPY! IT'S NOT NORMAL!
