Never underestimate the power of blowing your own horn. The guy who made it in my little circle of friends was the least talented, but the best at self-promotion.

Yeah, from what I can remember of the early 1980s scene, Master Hatsumi was taking money from anybody. He had a lot of 90+kg "menopause majors" studying with him. The French Operations Speciales and Israel's Mossad sent a few guys to his dojo who quit in a couple of months because the training was too fruity/mystical for the real world. After that, the Mossad sent their stone-killers to a dojo in Ebisu for a while. As far as I know, the French just surrendered and left Japan.:D

No doubt we're talking about a different guys...the Mossad guys I know never, never said anything about their purpose or employer. They just sort of forgot that a blue hair, blond eyes whitebread guy like me listening to them might have studied far too much Hebrew (Latin, Greek) in school. ] military types ...tend to favor systems that are quick and easy to learn and favor brute force[/quote]
True, so true.

Master Hatsumi does have a huge repertoire of wise "tricks" which would have been lost to Time and forgotten if it was not for him.

The favorite one I have heard was his teasing the elitist ranks of the Japanese police for "favoring chambara gokko" boys playing with sticks, Kendo. He called the Achilles Tendon of Kendo the fact it, "ignores the obvious, an ankle slash."

LOL@Hatsumi! I went to check out his dojo a few years ago. It was like a dungeons and dragons convention. It took all the control I had not to burst out laughing.
