Old Woman Drives Car into Convenience Store

KASUGAI, Aichi -- An old woman lost control of her car here early Saturday, slamming it into the front window of a convenience store and slightly injuring a male customer inside, police said.
A car is stranded after it rammed into a convenience store in Kasugai, Aichi Prefecture.
Neither the 62-year-old woman driving the car, two employees and three other customers in the store were injured.
The 32-year-old man hurt in the incident sustained only a minor elbow injury.
"We heard this huge noise and the car came bursting through the window," an employee of the convenience store said. "A customer had just finished paying for some stuff and the car came really close, but I was so glad nobody was seriously hurt."
Police said the old woman put her foot down on the accelerator instead of the brake and went hurtling into the storefront. (Mainichi Shimbun, Japan, May 28, 2005)

62 is no spring pup but I think it's a little discriminatory to call her 'old'. The implication seems to me to be that she was too hold to handle the car or something. 62 isn't that old.

My grandfather is 84 years old and still drives pretty much everyday, and every year drives 2,000km in 3 days to get up north during the southern winter. He's never had an accident in his life.
