Free School For FG Teens

Postby Mulboyne » Sun May 29, 2005 7:38 pm

Japan Times: International kids to get free school
A nonprofit group promoting multiculturalism will open a free school next month in Arakawa Ward, Tokyo, for foreign children or Japanese children who have a limited command of the Japanese language due to being raised by non-Japanese parents, group officials said Saturday. The Center for Multicultural Information & Assistance took the step to help children aged 16 or older who do not qualify for the free public education and those who have trouble adjusting to Japanese schools after finishing junior high school overseas, they said. Because of their poor command of Japanese, these children often end up failing high school entrance exams or even becoming socially withdrawn, the officials said. "We want the children to maximize their talents to triumph in their lives, even though it seems difficult now," said Wang Huijin, the group's representative.

They are probably getting funding from a secret cult or something. No such thing as a free lunch.

I was just watching on the news a few days ago about the Japanese government are concern that there are many Brazillian /Nikkei children and teenages (especially in places like Gunma prefecture) are not attending school, some haven't been for years. Probably this school is set up to help them.

Depends.
Some of the schools in Gunma have a lot of industry backing as they want/need bilinguals to be competitive in the world market. A lot of opportunity to feed off to some pretty good jobs.
Never underestimate the power of very stupid people in large groups.

It would be one thing if this fell under the International Schools that are accredited. Like Maths Dude and Ichigo say, to good to be true.

However, it would be good to look into. If they have all the necessary ceritifcations in place, then I would look at the curriculum and the certification of the teachers.

Did not realize this was an issue. I had freinds that attended Christ of King and St Mary's in Tokyo. Some Japanese attended Yokota High with me..that was cool.

If this is real and crediable, that would be great!!

I'm always suspicious when something usually expensive is offered for free. The funding has to come from somewhere.

They could easily be legit...But if they are, why don't the mention their funding sources?

Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

True....makes one think there may be some kind of motive behind it all.
