sure Mao was a fucking messed up commie, and China did have its militant dictator, but the Chinese are behaving much better than the Japanese today.

Shintaro this guy is a ranting racist, if he starts a war with China I doubt the Japanese will last long
Image
I've seen this discussed in other China vs Japan threads and few think the SDF would last in an all out fight with Chinese,
Jiminto and the Japanese uyoku right wingers are a bunch of fucking fools but
Ishihara tops the polls for the next prime minister
Image
A Beijing boycott will insult the Chinese but can Japan afford an economic war ? Russians ain't happy with this isle stuff, the South Koreans were angry over whitewashing and now its China-time, this area of Asia might start to heat up soon

You've gotta be fucking kidding me. China may not have wacked thousands of protestors in tienamen square again lately, and I know caring about tibet (et. al.) is no longer fashionable, but China is still the totalitarian country that brutally represses dissent, censors information from its people, has horid and unsafe working conditions for its population, sucks on the environment (and it takes a lot to be worse than japan...), and is breeding massive disparity in wealth as neo-oligarch types drive benzes while the rest starve.

Japan is paradise compared to China.

Yeah -- he loves the $8 bikes there I think. ;)

Japanese oligarchs

Postby dingosatemybaby » Thu Jun 02, 2005 2:09 pm

In all this red-baiting (fg meets FreeRepublic), a lot of posters are buying into blinky's arguments hook, slime, and dinker. Someone pointed out China's "emerging neo-oligarchs." And Japan DOESN'T have oligarchs?! What about the zaibatsu? These folks have ruled Japan with an iron fist since the 19th century, and a lot of them from the Edo Era.

Zaibatsu? Who the hell calls them Zaibatsu? Have you been reading William Gibson or something? The Zaibatsu went out prior to WW2. What emerged after that and survive today to some extent are the Keiretsu. Their operations are much more cooperative and horizontal in nature vs. the vertical, family ruled style of the old zaibatsu. They do/did dominate business and build a strong economy for Japan, but the days of some fat cat sitting at the top of these organizations kind of died out. The Tsutsumi case is an interesting one though...

Compare the pay of the typical japanese ceo or company owner today with that of his employees. Now do the same in China. What I was trying to say is that in Japan, the life lived by the big guys isn't all that different from the life lived by the average folk. You certainly can't say that about the way things are happening in China.

Oh, I dunno...this, I guess:

"sure Mao was a fucking messed up commie."

(Actually, he really was, particularly after early-onset dementia set in around 1957.)

That didn't come from this keyboard. I think Governor Ishihara should stick to local Tokyo issues and leave foreign policy to the national government. Other than the diesel engine pollution problem, I really can't think of anything the man has accomplished, other than grandstanding on issues way beyond his control.

The thing to think about as well is that 60+ billion in China is worth more and can purchase more than the 47 billion that Japan spends.... Unless the data has been leveraged to take into account the values of currency in the respective countries.

China will wipe Japan off the map, not for what they spend but simply due to the available man power... They are a force to reckon with.
