shipping stuff back home

ive got too much stuff to take with me on the plane, so whats the cheapest way of getting it back to london?? im guessing shipping it back, anyone know of any good companies, or other suggestions??

would it be cheaper to go on my flight with my extra luggage and have to pay the extra or to ship it?? ive got about 1 big suitcase of stuff.

if u have heaps and heaps of shit, try going with a company that charges for the crate load not how heavy it is.....

As for me....I sent many boxes back home by SURFACE MAIL (took about 2 months).......

it was about YEN 13,750 for 30kg !!

Find a PAKMAIL center - they ship by sea ONE SQUARE METER (UNLIMITED weight) - charge is resonable.

You can increment by .1 meter for pro rated cost. Ie 1.1 square meter, 1.2 square etc

They will pickup / packup and deliver to destination DOCKSIDE.

You arrage pickup there.

Before you look into shipping via other methods, I suggest you do this:

1. Figure out the total weight of what you have to take back.
2. Find out how many suitcases/bags/boxes you can squeeze this into.
3. Check your baggage allowance for going home on your air carrier of choice. Find out what extra bags cost -- and if they allow them at all!

Now you know what it will cost you to get it home in the most convenient (and fastest) way. If it isn't too much then I would just do that and not mess around.

If it's going to cost you a fortune then I would check around for various other shipping options.

You can use surface mail if you don't care about getting your stuff sometime in the not-so-near future. It took almost three months to get a couple boxes that I sent to the US when I sent my first shipment home way back when. The price wasn't as cheap as I expected and I thought the service was crap. EMS takes about 3-5 days to reach the destination. Yeah, it's about 3 times as expensive as the surface mail...but the service is about 100 x's better. You can also purchase insurance which is cheap. Go to any post office and they'll take care of you.

I use EMS to send 'stuff' to the US every so often for business. The cost to ship a box that is about 20 kg. is about 30,000 JPY. I guess for the price you'd almost be better off buying a seat on a plane and paying for the extra luggage like somebody mentioned already.

An interesting thing that I learned awhile back is that there is no longer such thing as "surface mail" (ie mail that goes by sea).

Something sent "surface" will actually go air -- just at a very low priority. Basically it will only be sent when there is capacity available.

Just a useless bit of postal trivia.

Yeah, I used to get that too. At the time I figured the post office had goofed and sent it via air.

What happens though is the priority is set very low, and when there is space on a plane they load on "surface" packages. I would imagine (but don't know) that after a set time (2-3 months?) the priority is raised.

its 1.5% of my plane ticket for every 1kg of extra luggage i have. that seems a bit much? around 2000yen per 1kg.

thanks, i researched PAKMAIL, but do they only ship to america? im in England... the japan branches are all in kansai ish areas n nagoya.......... im in tokyo...
