2nd Hand Shops

Postby spyder » Fri Jun 03, 2005 1:17 am

Hey guys,

I am in Tokyo, and I was wondering if you can please point me in the direction of some shops where i can buy 2nd hand Playstation2 games. I am looking for D1 Grand Prix and Kaido Battle. These are a few years old, so hard to find new. I would also prefer the cheapness of 2nd haxnd.

Cheers!!

Akihabara is probably a good place to start. More used game shops than you'd really need.

Best prices I found on recent used games was a store called "Liberty" was written in katakana, big vertical green letters. A few blocks down from the station on the right hand side of the main drag. Had an entire floor for used PS2 games, I got Kaido Battle there for around 2000yen.

Sorry that's so vague. Really just shop around and don't buy the game the first time you see it, prices can vary a lot from store to store.

even a big tsutaya (like the one in shibuya) could do if you're lucky. they have second hand games for many types of consoles.

If the price is what you are willing to pay then I say buy it the first time you see it... So many times in Japan I have seen something I liked and thought, "Hmm, maybe I'll come back later for it..." When I go back it's already gone.

Especially if you are short of time and looking for something used (and not too expensive in the first place) -- grab it!

Most BookOff stores also sell secondhand games.

You're probably right, but given the games he's looking for aren't more than a few years old and not particularly rare, unless he's strapped for time shopping around won't hurt him.

Most stores that sell games should also sell systems. More so than games, it pays to shop around for used systems. Specfically PS2s because there's been so many different versions and limited editions. The condition of the console can also vary quite a bit (boxed or unboxed, missing parts, etc) but generally the Japanese are good about taking good care of their video games should most should be in good condition, a Saturn I bought this summer came with all of its original warranty information in perfect condition.

Another thing to look out for are the stickers on used games and systems. Most stores have some sort of grading system for the condition of their games/systems (A, B, etc), but there will also be notes about the CD being scratched, stuff missing, and so forth. If you have trouble reading those, ask one of the employees to open up the box (especially with systems) so you can have a look before you buy.

But check out Liberty for starters and just look around. If you're not looking for a limited edition PS2 or anything, shouldn't be too hard to find one for a decent price. I was in full geek-mode so I had to go for the limited edition Z-Gundam gold PS2 Liberty had.

The Enrichment Center reminds you that the weighted companion cube will never threaten to stab you and, in fact, cannot speak.
