mangakissa, find a good one with a night rate that has a shower. free drinks, free net, free movies and tv. usually around $15 a night (8 hours). Not sure what is in that area without googling around, and I am far too lazy to do that for you :)

There's about 5 Manboo mangakissa around Ikebukuro station. The easiest one to find is right in front of the north exit to the station, just like a left across the street and look for the signs on the sidewalk. It's a few floors up.

If he's going to go the mangakissa route, don't go to a Manboo. They're nice places, but they're too expensive. Their night packs are only about 3 hours. In the same building as the Manboo by the north exit is a Manga Hiroba (I think that's the name), which is another chain. They're cheaper and not as shiesty as Manboo. Downsides of that particular Hiroba is that it's bright inside so it was harder to fall asleep (Manboo's are really dark inside) and there's no shower. But it's cheaper and has a longer night pack.

Maybe someone with more experience (or better Japanese) can clear this up, but I think most Mangakissa charge extra for the shower? I only showered in them a couple times, and the last time I had a very angry employee banging on the door when I got out, but I had trouble figuring out why he was so angry. (My Japanese is passable, so I think I would have been able to figure out if he wanted me to pay).

For more civilized accomdations, I'd recommend Tokyo House Ikebukuro (http://www.housejp.com.tw/). It's 5,000yen for a single though, when I stayed there I was in a double so I only paid 3000yen and was under the impression it was a better deal. Still a nice place.

Might be different for different branches, or they might have changed their hours since I was there this summer. Talked ot my friend who stayed with me at one of the Ikebukuro Manboo's and he thinks it was 5 hours.

I guess the point is just to be aware, and don't assume all night packs are the same. :?

Yea, different Manboo's have different deals basically. Either 5 or 8 for the night pack is typical depending on where you are at. What you are getting for it is not a bad deal at all.

Get a regular hotel

Postby Mini_B » Tue Jun 07, 2005 12:36 pm

For about 3000 yen you can get a love hotel and they even have locks on the doors and showers. Staying at an internet cafe is grody. Get a life people.

Yeah, crashing in a cafe can't be that comfortable and you're going to feel pretty gross and nicotine coated in the morning.

But what kind of love hotel are you going to get for 3,000/night?? Unless Tokyo is a lot cheaper than Osaka (not too likely!) I think you'd be looking at 7,000 bare minimum, more like 8 to 10.
