Families Question

Postby Maths Dude » Sun Jun 12, 2005 9:09 pm

Do Japanese parents, these days, treat daughters different from sons? Seems my parents-in-lae a little cold to my woman.

Sometimes. Generally speaking I think the expectations are still different, even if the overt treatment isn't.

They might not be overjoyed at her decision to move overseas...

You're a real pleasure to converse with AK.

Not sure exactly who you are aiming that at!

If it's me about my reply to your original question, I'm just speaking from my experience. I don't think my in-laws intend to treat my wife differently, and they're great people... But the differences are noticeable. I see it in other families as well.

AK is just going through a phase of verbal abuse.
It's good for all of us to try every now and then.

Of course it depends on the parents! Come on, now.

In my case, both my father-in-law and his brothers seem to dote on their girls and have really close relationships, but with their sons it's the complete opposite; they don't get along at all, and IMO they treat the sons a bit too coldly.

But like I said, it depends on the parents, and this is just my example.

In that case they probably just don't like the idea of having a gaijin knock their little girl up.
