I think he was refering to possible changes in US opinions over such things as rising death toll etc., and possible US pull-outs circa the Vietnam myth. That is why he referenced the Security Pact. One side stuck in the 1980s still pretending they're superior than the other and refusing to take other (Asian) countries seriously, and the other economically jealous while their GDP has been the world's no.2 since 1998 and still ranting on about something that happened 68 years ago, all the while the two are each other's most important economic partners...
