Imagine Cup in Yokohama

Postby Mulboyne » Fri Jun 24, 2005 10:22 pm

vnunet.com: British bloggers head to Japan
A location-aware blogging tool has won first prize in the UK round of the Imagine Cup...The team submitted 'One Reach', a design which allows travelling gap year students to blog their journey using a smartphone. Bit Shifters will head to Yokohama in Japan next month to compete for a share of the $215,000 total prize fund in the global competition.
Microsoft wrote:Yokohama was chosen as the venue for the Imagine Cup 2005 Finals because it now defines much of what is modern Japan. It's a place that juxtaposes the old and the new, the traditional and the modern, the technologically sophisticated and the beautifully simple. This has inspired the theme of the Imagine Cup 2005: "Imagine a world where technology dissolves the boundaries between us."

Seems you dont have to be very original at all...

In 2003 some guys from Hull won 3rd place for
turning a Pocket PC into a sophisticated travelling companion that handles currency and language translation as well as recommendations and directions to hotels, restaurants, and tourist sites, all in real time

... if only there were a way to wirelessly connect these microprocessor devices to a global network of information....

Then in 2004 someone pitched "Juice"
accessible via either a SmartPhone or by using a PC connected to the web. Students could use it as a kind of virtual assistant, providing lifestyle services on the move, enabling them to organise their studies and social life so that they could keep track of where their mates were and when their lectures would be

if only someone hadnt already come up with http://www.dodgeball.com
