Anybody collecting the Nintendo caps from Pepsi Twist?

Postby Caustic Saint » Sun Apr 17, 2005 2:31 pm

Yes, I know how dorky this is, but so what? :)

I'm trying to get all 30 of the caps they're giving away with Pepsi Twist right now, and have gotten nothing but duplicates on my last six bottles, so I think my luck may have run out. If anybody else is collecting these and has duplicates they may want to trade, post here or PM me and maybe we can hook each other up.

Here are the ones I have so far:

Regular:

Diet:

Going by the numbers from the insert that comes in each foil bag, I still need #s 1, 4, 5, 9, 11, 17, 20, 22, 26, 27, 29 and 30.

My current stash of duplicates (by number): 2, 3, 6 (x2), 12, 16, 18, 19 (x2), 23 (x3) and 25 (x2).

Any chance I might be able to find a trading partner, or am I alone in my lameness? :D

As I drink Pepsi Twist occasionally I was going to try to get you some more caps... Is the give-away already over? Or maybe it is Kanto-only? The 7-11 around the corner from work has Pepsi Twist, but no cap give-away happening right now. :(

Nakano Broadway

Postby ketchupkatsu » Tue Apr 19, 2005 1:54 pm

you could just go to Nakano Broadway shopping mall.

on the upper floors there are a multitude of shops selling these kinds of items.

And because of the concentration, there prices seem to be a little better than what you find in Akihabara.

But then its more fun going to conbi and trying your luck :D

Thanks! It's going on until the end of May, but I've noticed that some shops aren't putting them out anymore. The 7-11 near me hasn't had any for a couple weeks, but Seiyu's still been a good place to get them. Let me know if you find any! :D

Ketchup, I'll take a look at the place in Nakano. I've been meaning to head over there to check out Ferret World, so now I've got two reasons to go. Thanks for the tip!

Starwars Episode 7:

The emperor finds running the galaxy so tedious that the drink and blow isnt as effective as it used to be. So he decides to go on an all night binge which results in him spontaneous human combustioning (I know bad spelling) from the booze and the wick effect.

From Mwctoys.com:
The Japanese have too much money. Keep that thought, because we'll eventually return to it. When I was a kid, way back in the 60's and 70's, there were lots and lots of kid's crap designed for us to collect. "Save the whales! Collect them, trade them with your friends!" was a popular bumper sticker. And one of the features of these 'collectibles' was that you didn't know what you were getting when you bought it, and so to get a complete set, you had to buy, buy again, and then buy some more. I bet my mom threw out enough Cap'n Crunch to solve the world's food crisis...Now that I'm an adult, I have a different feeling about this collectible crap shoot. No sir, I don't like it. I end up spending way too much, and I end up with way too many extras, mocking me for my addiction. And that brings us back to the Japanese.

See, they love this thing, even as adults. Just about all the mini-figures over in Japan come packaged so you can't see what you're getting, with special ultra rare chases and one in a billion figures that are designed to drive you insane. For example, in one batch of Star Wars Kubricks, the chase figure was...INDIANA JONES! The Marquis De Sade would have wept in admiration. And since the Japanese love having this done to them, I've concluded they have too much money. And should give some to me.

I thought the Japanese inacted a rule two years ago April that all OMAKE freebies now must be visible through the wrapper or labeled as to the what is contained (to prevent product-purchase gambling by kids).

They did pass a rule like that but I believe the law only applies to promotional items that attached to products (such as pepsi mario or star wars caps). While you might really want that jar jar cap, you are still buying the bottle of pepsi. This law doesn't apply to kubricks or similar products because the kubrick IS the product itself, although you don't necessarily know exactly which figure you are getting when you buy it.
Image
With Kubricks, you are buying box from a series with one of 6/8/ect figures in it plus typically one or two "chase" figures, which typically are available in so many per case, such as 1 per case (of 24) or 1 per 4 cases. Sometimes the chase figure is only a slight modification to an existing figure, such a color or uniform variation or head change (often the case in star wars Kubricks http://www.jedidefender.com/kubrick4.php, i.e. such as stormtrooper with removable helmet and Luke's head on the stromtrooper or Ultraman Zoffy or the C varient Dada in the Gilco/Kubrick Ultraman series (http://www.kubism.net/C_ULTM_GBU/C_ULTM_GBU_GMR.html). In other cases, such as the Matrix, the chase figures (the architect and the key-maker) were wholly unique. Not infrequently, the value of a single chase figure on the secondary market can more than 1x-2x the value of all the other "regular" figures combined.

To prevent people peeking in the boxes to scope out the figures before hand, Kubricks are sealed in a silver bag that makes it impossible to figure out what inside short of opening it. I've heard they're even made the bags difficult to by x-rayed clearly to prevent people from xraying sealed boxes to find chase figures, but I don't know if this is actually true.

But there is a very sad, desparate gambler like quality of opening box after box saying, "come on, key-maker, where are you?"...but there is that thrill when you do find him.
