English teacher busted for switching CD price tags

OSAKA -- A teacher who changed the price tag on a CD at a music store in an attempt to pay a few hundred yen less has been arrested, police said Monday.

The educator, a 44-year-old English teacher at a municipal elementary school in Ikeda, Osaka, was arrested on suspicion of attempted fraud. He has reportedly admitted to the allegations.

Investigators said the teacher removed the 1,990 yen price tag from a classical CD at the Shinsaibashi branch of music retailer HMV in Osaka at about 12:45 p.m. Sunday, and replaced it with another 1,590 yen tag.

Yes <sound of hand hitting forehead> of course.

Yeah you're right. I should have rethunk it - it's a Mainichi story after all.

Of course now the rent-a cop guardman at Itoyokado will start following me around even more closely than he does now. :D

:D You know what's funny? In Japan, I can't tell the difference between the rent-a-cops and real cops. :? .. I think that works in their favor..

Hey don't laff - Every morning I have coffee at Denny's up the road - I go in about 5.00 AM and at one table are about six off duty plainclothes cops and at the next table about the same number of off duty CHIMPIRA. I can't tell the difference.

BUT they *both* stare at me like I'm from Vega when I walk in. Must have heard about the CD label swap job I pulled last week 8O

I assumed it was a gaijin from the fact it's such a "no-news" story and that usually elementary school teachers don't teach a specific subject.

Japanese police never bothered me.

Except for the one time I ran over an old lady. They thought it was a hit and run and when I came to the station they started acting like badasses. (I could have taken out the whole station) I raised my voice and told them I did nothing wrong and I asked the lady if she wanted me to call the police and she said no. I also told them that I gave her all my info and that the police called my office, thats how they got in contact with me.
They calmed down after that and offered me some tea.

Pretty female officer served it.
I will not abide ignorant intolerance just for the sake of getting along.

Japanese police/ security guards never bothered me too. I even ever took something from a departmental store and walk to the next store to pay, thinking I am still in the same place :? .
