Scary shit in UK....

Postby sillygirl » Thu Jul 07, 2005 7:03 pm

Several people have been injured after explosions on the Underground network and a double-decker bus in London.
A police spokesman said there were "quite a large number of casualties" at Aldgate Tube Station.

And Scotland Yard confirmed one of several reports of explosions on buses in the city - in Tavistock Place - but said the cause was not yet known.

One caller to BBC Five said his friend had seen "the bus ripped open like a can of sardines and bodies everywhere".

London terror attacks bear hallmarks of Al Qaeda

Postby chidsta » Thu Jul 07, 2005 7:38 pm

London terror attacks bear hallmarks of Al Qaeda
London has feared a devastating terrorist "spectacular" since 191 people were killed and more than 1,500 injured in the Madrid bombings in March last year.
Today's series of multiple attacks across the capital - on the first full day of the G8 summit - bear all the hallmarks of Al Qaeda terrifying style of terrorism.

Like previous strikes, including the September 11 attacks in the US, there were almost simultaneous blasts. And like Madrid, they came on a clearly significant day.

In the Spanish city, terrorists planted 10 bombs on four packed commuter trainHs just days before the Spanish elections, which ousted the right-wing government that backed the invasion of Iraq.

Al Qaeda-linked militants claimed responsibility. A video found near a Madrid mosque after the attack claimed it was revenge for sending 1,300 troops to Iraq.

None of the mobiles are working!!!!!!!! ARRRrrrrrrrgh!! I can't check up on everyone!
Mobile phone networks are jammed today as anxious callers try to contact loved-ones.
Vodafone has dedicated part of its network exclusively to the emergency services, a spokeswoman said.

Orange said a surge in the number of calls meant users were experiencing delays getting through.

A Vodafone spokeswoman said: "The network is under full capacity as a certain amount has been dedicated to the emergency services so they can talk to each other. That will have an effect on customers."

Orange said network congestion meant users were having trouble making calls on the first attempt.

A spokeswoman for Virgin Mobile, which operates via the T-Mobile network, said: "There are so many people making calls at the moment it is taking a while for people to get through. The volume of calls has really surged."

Targeted Areas so far...

Postby chidsta » Thu Jul 07, 2005 7:48 pm

Do you have friends and family in these areas? At a glance this is what is happening:
The London transport network has been rocked by a series of explosions. The entire Tube network has been suspended. Here are the stations that have been reportedly affected so far:
Aldgate: People seen leaving the station 'streaming with blood' after reported explosions and train collision in nearby tunnel. Police sealed off several streets around Aldgate and told people to stand back as ambulances were bringing out casualties. Police sources said they had unconfirmed reports of two fatalities. They spoke of nine serious casualties.

Edgware Road: Explosion reported on Tube trains, with a British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman saying that two trains remained stuck in tunnels. Scores of police and fire engines filled Edgware Road as shocked passengers left the scene of one of the explosions. The area around the station was completely cordoned off as walking wounded emerged from the scene.

Moorgate: Explosion was reported at Tube station.

Russell Square: Eyewitnesses reported that a packed double decker bus in the Russell Square area had been severely damaged in a blast. Scotland Yard confirmed the bus explosion and said it was dealing with "multiple explosions" in London.

Tavistock Place: Scotland Yard confirm explosion on bus.

Upper Woburn Place: Police cordoned off roads around Upper Woburn Place after the explosion on a bus.

Old Street: Incident reported. No details as yet.

Covent Garden: Reports of the Army on the streets.

Stockwell: Station closed after suspect package found.

King's Cross: Reported explosion. People seen leaving the scene with serious injuries.

Charing Cross Road in central London was cordoned off between Cambridge Circus and Centre Point after a report of a suspect package at a bus stop.

Liverpool Street: Reported explosion.

Marylebone: An explosion was reported to have occurred. Nothing confirmed and no details as yet.

South Kensington: An explosion was reported to have occurred. Nothing confirmed and no details as yet.

Main line train networks are stopping trains entering London.

Stay where you are, advises Police Commissioner

Everyone is in a state of chaos right now!
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair said there had been at least six explosions but added that the picture was still "very confused".
Sir Ian told ITV News Channel: "We are slowly assuming control and order.

"We are urging people to stay where they are and stay where they are safe. There is no way of moving around London, there are no tube services and no buses."

It seems SKY news, CNN and ITN are reporting those figures. The fact is that first casualty lists always goes up. Did you see the bus? I was totally ripped apart. I'd say the death toll will be high, unfortunately.

Back to the IRA thing. They were talking on the TV that the IRA went after government intalations (usually?) but almost always gave some warning to minimize deaths. But these terrorists went for blood.

They are saying 45 on J telly too (based on Sky News).

The number isn't important - the loss of even one person is a tragedy.

Disgusted at the fear-mongering going on right now on this program. Speculating on the next place that may be hit - and will it be Japan etc. For goodness sake.

Netanyahu Changed Plans Due to Warning
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20050707/ap_on_re_mi_ea/israel_britain_explosions_1
British police told the Israeli Embassy in London minutes before Thursday's explosions that they had received warnings of possible terror attacks in the city, a senior Israeli official said.

Israeli Finance Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had planned to attend an economic conference in a hotel over the subway stop where one of the blasts occurred, and the warning prompted him to stay in his hotel room instead, government officials said....

Just before the blasts, Scotland Yard called the security officer at the Israeli Embassy to say they had received warnings of possible attacks, the official said. He did not say whether British police made any link to the economic conference.
