
Tumor growth-inhibitory substance in Bunashimeji discovered

Takara Bio Inc. of Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, which had earlier succeeded in artificial cultivation of Bunashimeji mushroom ahead of others in the world, announced at a meeting of the Japanese Cancer Association on October 1 that low-molecular compound polyterpene contained in Bunashimeji mushroom is effective in inhibiting the growth of tumor.
The company...said the component isolated from powder of Bunashimeji mushroom...administered orally to mice for four weeks. It was found that the component enabled to suppress in the size of tumor growth to about 40% of those in the mice that were not administered.
