Teacher at Higashi School convicted of harming student
2 more said to flee Randolph facility

Boston Globe | June 29, 2005
RANDOLPH --
A former teacher with the Boston Higashi School in Randolph, known for its unorthodox methods of teaching autistic students, has been convicted of causing serious bodily harm to a student.
Two other teachers also charged with assaulting the student have fled, possibly back to Japan, the Norfolk District Attorney's office said yesterday.
The teacher, Naoya Nishimura, was found guilty Friday in Quincy District Court of dragging Scott Tedeman across the floor, bending his fingers back, and assaulting him multiple times a week between January and July 2000, when Tedeman was 18. Nishimura was sentenced to 30 days in the House of Correction. Arrest warrants have been issued for the two other teachers charged with assaulting Tedeman, Masakatsu Nagata and Masakata Kunihiro.

Arrest warrants have been issued for the two other teachers charged with assaulting Tedeman, Masakatsu Nagata and Masakata Kunihiro.

''They were both charged, and they both fled," said Kevin Bowe, spokesman for the Norfolk district attorney.

Is there any chance of them getting extradited?

''The difficult students would be handled by the Japanese staff," the witness said in a police report. ''It appeared there was an expectation of success with the Japanese staff."

No doubt using the same techniques Gramps used on Allied prisoners when he was a prison guard back in WWII.

Here is the school's Web site: http://www.bostonhigashi.org.

The school was founded by a pair of Japanese doctors who have another school in Tokyo. The Boston school seems to not only be borrowing the doctor's philosophy, but devoting a lot of resources to the cross-cultural thing. That's all well and good (actually, wasteful considering the more immediate needs of the kids), but maybe they should devote more resources to monitoring their classrooms.

I wonder what the Tokyo school's reaction is to the arrests.

One thing that I didn't like about the japs was that when they wanted to quit the school I worked at, 99.999999% of them simply wouldn't turn up. No phone call no nothing. They too weak to actually say, 'I wanna stop'.

Because your anti-Japanese rants on every topic are getting tiresome. Everything is "Jap this" and "Jap that". You're always negative, and sometimes you take a racist tone. Assuming you live in Japan, why are you still there?

I thought you were a bit brighter that that!

I suppose the average forum doesnt really allow for much tongue in cheek or sarcasm!!

I rant to release stress of YES living in Japan. The MINDLESS sterotyping/racist news(I fight fire with fire to show how offensive it is) is it OK for ishihara to spout hate but not me to exploit how offensive playing the racist card is??

Are you really so mindless to suggest that If I have problems with Japan I should just leave? people can`t have opinions? must we all be like the locals and only see the wonders of japan?

Life is not always a like it or leave it situation! ask some people in Africa hey if you got no food why dont you just leave? Yes stupid isnt it!

If you think my rants are tiresome...stiff...this is a forum for US FUCKED GAIJINS to vent! get it!
perhaps your LACK of rants are tiresome to me but i let you live you life dont I!!?? maybe you need the attitude change??

allow people to say want they want, want to talk facts fine with me, but I notice you MADE NO comment on this story...whats your take!?

Japan will extradite the criminals to the US as they demanded china do recently? Fujimori will be on the same plane?

I thought YOU were brighter than that. Life isn't as black and white as you paint it. The way you structure your question, it's as if someone must either LOVE Japan or HATE it. You obviously hate it, because I've never seen you write one positive thing about the place. I've developed a more balanced view of the place. Sure, there's some crappy stuff, like the existence of Ishihara or the misleading news about foreigners, but there are great things about Japan, too. That's why I don't sit on this forum and rant incessantly. Moreover, it's just boring to hear "Jap" this and "Jap" that all the time.

So you still haven't answered my question: why are you still in Japan?

Yes I`m still here.

why? because I have a life and family here.

I do see positives here too but sorry I dont post about it as I feel this site is a more venting, also the news like ishihara gets me down, I also see a japan heading down a path they have been down not so long ago due to nationalisim and thoughtless sterotyping.

very little logic a lot of nationalistic emotion.

"Assuming you live in Japan, why are you still there?"

sorry but to me that suggested if I dont like it...leave.

It is a very common attitude by japanese too (love us dont critizise us).
any critical comment no matter how constructive...gets ÿou japan basher"

anyway I`ll try to be more positive...promise..in fact i thnk there was a thread äll the things you like about japan" shit I think i posted there!!

Of all the posters who don't post a lot you're definitely one of my favorites. It doesn't matter if a single poster has balanced views. I am glad that some posters are more negative and some are more positive and some are more case by case. Overall FG has a good balance and that's the important thing.

Actually, I don't care either about the balance of views. It's the racist tone of blackcat's comments. It's always about the "Japs" and an endless string of generalized insults. What if he applied the same string of insults to Southerners? You'd be offended, no doubt.

Teacher busted

Postby Somerandomgaijin » Fri Jul 15, 2005 6:03 am

Most days I try to get along with our Hosts. Other days I just try to go unnoticed. However, without fail they
seem to notice me. Next comes either: 1. I DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH (6 years of monbusho bullshit down the drain) 2. Foreigners ....
I become fodder for their silly little conversations about lack of English or how GAIKoKUJin do this or that or even the other. But after about 20 times in a day I get sick of hearing the word gaijin. Sometimes I will reply with AJIA-JIN DA! You're(It's)[An] Asian! This seems to shut our hosts up fairly well. Other times I will use the J-A-Panese word (omitting the anese part.)
There seems to be one thing no matter where you go, and that is dumb bastards. For they are a plenty. The US has some, Finland has some, KOREA has a fair share, and yes even Japan.
Black Cat I feel your pain.

Two things:

I thought the consensus among the FG's on this board was that "gaijin" isn't inherently a bad word. Certainly, it does not carry the malevolent meaning that "Jap" does, even if certain people claim that "Jap" is merely an abbreviation. And claiming that "Jap" is an abbreviation doesn't automatically innoculate it from its racist roots.

Also, I should say in fairness to blackcat that I also feel your pain. For a time, I resented the Japanese for certain things. I also admit it's probably best to approach the Japanese with a certain sense of skepticism and not to think that they will become your close friends.

However, I don't indict the entire nationality with juvenile names like "gutless", etc. Those are unfounded, racist, attacks. I know for a fact that there are just as many good, honorable people in Japan who don't deserve such labels.

If you have had problems in Japan, just do what I did: stop caring about whether you are accepted into their society, do your own thing, and get out when you can so you can find a happier place.

It is not the word itself that bothers me, it is the frequency in which I hear it. I know many of the FG members embrace the word, take pride in being the foreigner. I am just trying to get along here.
I think the racist thing is uncool.
We should try to get along; drink beer together, talk some trash and scam some chicks. I find it easier to get along with our hosts when either they are drunk, or I am drunk.
