Kyodo via Japan Today: Counterterrorism drill conducted in Tokyo Bay
About 100 officers from the Metropolitan Police Department, the Tokyo Coast Guard Office and seven other government agencies held a joint counterterrorism drill in Tokyo Bay on Thursday. The drill was aimed at stopping a group of terrorists from sneaking into Japan to carry out a bomb attack. It was based on the scenario that a dozen or so terrorists made their way into Tokyo Bay aboard a small boat laden with explosives. During the drill, which lasted about an hour, the mock terrorists, played by police and coast guard officers, ignored coast guard warnings to stop their vessel and landed at the Oi pier.
