High-tech toilet maker sets sights on overseas markets
The Asahi Shimbun, 07/16/2005
...Are people of the world ready for heated toilet seats, warm-water bidets with adjustable nozzles, blow-dry air and automatic flushing?
Yes?
OK. Then, how about toilets that play music and release fragrances of the user's choice?
In countries like China and the United States, they might be a tough sell.
...Toto aired a controversial TV commercial featuring an actress saying, "The bottom wants to be washed, too."...
Toto's primary targets are China and the United States....
Since February, Toto has been airing a TV commercial in China featuring popular actress Kelly Chen, who asks viewers, "Have you started washing?" The company is hoping for the same breakthrough it achieved in the domestic market.
The United States appears to be even tougher. From a technical aspect, electrical wiring needs to be carefully guarded because in the country, toilets are located next to bathtubs.

Toliets in the bathroom

Postby genman » Sun Jul 17, 2005 5:27 am

I always liked how the Japanese have the toliet in a separate room. Seemed like sensible idea to me. Why would you want to shit where you bathe?

Electrically speaking, if you put in a GFI outlet and the outlet only allows a single cord, it should be quite safe. If they ever sell the Toto toliets at Home Depot for a reasonable price, I'll get one. In the local (Seattle) Japanese newspapers, they are around $500-$800 for just the seat.

Any links for companies exporting Toto seats from Japan?
Or importers in Europe?
I found a couple of sites for US companies who import and sell at an apparently huge mark-up (as much as $3250).
They dont cost that much in Japan - do they?

Wiki have blurb on the Japanese Toilet
