TMG: Energy-Saving Labels - Choosing for the Future. The Tokyo Energy Efficiency Rating System to Start July 1!
In March this year, revisions were made to the Environmental Conservation Ordinance in order to help reduce household emissions of CO2. Retailers of air conditioners and other home appliances will be responsible for displaying labels indicating the energy efficiency of their products. The energy-saving label system will start on July 1.

Features of rating system
* A five-level comparative rating system will indicate energy efficiency
Household appliances will be rated according to their degree of energy efficiency. Applicances with the most energy efficient performance will recieve a rating of AAA, followed by AA, A, B and C.
* Display of retail price and expense estimation
Products superior in energy efficiency performance tend to be expensive at the time of purchase, but cheaper to run. When purchasing home electrical appliances for long-term use, it is important to refer to the energy saving label and make a selection based on the total expense, including running costs, rather than the product price alone.
