99% unreported
That's a statistic.

For example, what looks to be a schoolgirl gets on a train and is molstested by a man here, gropped by a man there and it only gets worse. Can someone PLEASE tell me that this is not common place, let alone accepted by the Japanese society at large?
I know of two women, in the past year, that said they've been raped. One, her house was broken into and was raped by up to five men. She doesn't know how many since she was bound and blind-folded. Of course, the cops told her to tell no one.dimwit wrote:I have heard of at least two very reliable stories of passed out women being raped in gaijin bars.
I don't know if it's common, but I'm sure it's VERY commonly unreported.dimwit wrote:So it is very common, and 99% unreported.

Well I have seen Kangaroos bounding down the main street of some rural cities and the only people reacting with a WTF??? were the locals. The visitors all thought it was normal.

It is true. I get paid to look through this stuff every day.
Abnormal sexuality is a daily part of Japanese lives, whether in practice or simply by being in a society where it is so blatantly available.
As to whether this is accepted by Japanese society. I'd argue yes. I'd say as far as obscenity -- physical, visual and mental -- the general opinion is still that women should just, "lay back and enjoy it," for wont of a better term. And, right or wrong, it's a fact many women accept this view, too.
But, this is all going to change. Tokyo Gov. Shintaro Ishihara has launched a clean-up campaign that is already starting to work. There are fewer dirty magazines on store shelves, the used panty trade is drying up, porno vending machines are under threat, some of the weeklies have announced they will no longer run nude pictures or obscene stories.
Japan had a moralistic crackdown on sex like this before. In the 1920s and 1930s. And we all know what else started happening then, too.

I have heard of at least two very reliable stories of passed out women being raped in gaijin bars.
So it is very common, and 99% unreported.
you're making some pretty broad generalizations
Second, "lay back and enjoy it?" I'm not even going to touch that...Suffice to say I think you're grossly underestimating the average Japanese woman.
I roll my eyes at that as at least they are not trying to perve down my cleavage.

You mean chicks don't like that?
BTW, has anyone else noticed how grouchy and cranky Japanese girls have become? They're just as cranky and angry as foreign chicks.
GomiGirl wrote:My pet hate are the hidious mullet headed, bad suit, slip on shoes with white sock touts at the train stations trying to either nampa or entice a girl with a certain look to work in their strip club/brothel/hostess bar. These guys are awful and something should be done about these brazen harrassments - often right in front of the police boxes at Shibuya Station. This is a sign of the lack of respect that is undercurrent here and leads people to think that they can treat women badly - it is out in the open and thus reinforced everyday. The girls concerned just put their heads in the sand and walk quickly away.
Often attired in well-worn black suits and sporting wavy dyed hair, these "scouts" repeatedly scan the oncoming crowd. Tokyo's Shibuya district is the ultimate gathering point for young, fashionable females dressed for attention in remarkably short skirts and snug tops, and it is this demographic that comprises the scout's prime target.

As for the other replies, I have no intention on staying home, I was simply wondering if being GANG-RAPED while riding on a train is normal, but I guess in Justin's mind, it is
aquamarine wrote:Well what can I say? Thanks for the replys folks. So far I've been one major act of letcherism, it happened to a fellow gaijin while riding on the train back to Yokohama. Needless to say, the four of us guys didn't stand for it as we stood up for our female friend.
Otherwise, I swear my ass has been grabbed at LEAST twice, not just a pat, but a "ouch! what the?" type of grab. Although I don't like the idea, it's definatly unique!
Over-all, Im definatly enjoying Japan. Took a trip to the beach, was a letcher there myself by just gawking at all of the gorgeous women.
I've also had the chance to visit Don Quixote's in Shibuya. I enter the store, look around, pick up a bottle of shampoo, go upstairs, ooh!! toys! OOH! AIRSOFT GUNS! Then turn around stunned... not sure what to make of the nearly nude schoolgirl on a bottle of "love lotion... what the?" Then my eyes focus to the rest of the wall covered in various vibrators, dildo's, anal-explorers and creams of all fashions. And all next to the toy section, go figure, only in Japan!
GOD I LOVE THIS COUNTRY!
... and now to find someplace to make me some business cards so I can get my internet modeling business back up and running! Joy!
