Self important dickhead tourist 36 months behind the times

Postby hamarikyuteien » Sun Aug 06, 2006 12:27 am

Hi, folks! I'm posting here because I can't find a thread entitled, "respectable rebuttals to pathetic rants that violate the spirit of FG in every way, shape, and form." [Mod Edit: This post has been moved to its own thread] I refer to the diatribes leveled against one of my numerous sites, "Trains, Temples, and Hordes--Gozaimasu!" that accrued in September 2003.

I scarcely know where to begin. I can't, for example, identify what's more lame: someone complaining that I'm a "paper MCSE" because I build operating systems internals and have my name in lights in the acknowledgements and/or biblios of half a dozen US and European federal standards (whereas my critic can--just perhaps--spell "UNIX"), or someone asserting that I've made "numerous spelling errors" on my site (when I haven't made a spelling error since fourth grade), or someone criticizing my command of Japanese etymology when [a] to say the very least, I've tried; [b] he knows from nothing about my command of etymology or, for that matter, several dozen other fields that I can freewheelingly discuss at a postgraduate level at the drop of a hat; [c] as best I can discern, the typical Japanese college graduate knows of the etymology of his language what the typical American junior high-schooler knows of the etymology of his.

[BTW, folks who know zero about matters technologic should avoid straying thither lest they make flagrant imbeciles of themselves. I refer to the comments about referer logs (how dreadful that the referrer [thus spelt] is reflected by $REFERER [thus spelt]!) and such. Microhack your hearts out, little children. I'm extremely proud of your estimable efforts.]

I had understood that the Japanese were friendly people who were proud of their achievements and their manners. Anyone who is Japanese who would contribute to that thread should have the courtesy to commit seppuku. (I can see it now: someone is getting ready to type, "Wow! Bruce is such a genius! He knows the word seppuku! Dork! FG!")

But thanks for the compliments on my wife's "rack." Yes, they're quite nice. Of course, since she was wearing a heavy backpack at the time--the straps of which cut nicely into her, er, conformation (that's different from "confirmation" for our spelling guru out there)--her endowment was rather artificially stressed. Albeit, they're extremely nice boobs.

It would appear that we "FGs" have nothing to worry about. I can see that the contributors to this site represent the worst, the paltriest, the most jealous, the most lacking in constructive things to do ("an idle mind is the Devil's workshop" say we FGs) that the Land of the Rising Sun has to offer. If I'm wrong, then God help your little archipelago there (no, over there--no, just there--no, THAT'S it!).

Your grammar sucks.

Here's his site.. http://www.nsli.com/.../japan/index.htm#wed16

I think I remember someone linking to that site way back when.. But I don't remember anyone being critical; we even praised his wife's rack.. There is no higher honor, IMO..

I have vague memories of a thread about this...

Here it is - http://www.fuckedgaijin.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4349

I find it pretty amusing that this guy says he's so smart, yet:
1. It didn't occur to him to just reply to the original thread, or even just create a new thread.
2. Its taken him 3 years to decide to post his response??

Not off to a very good start, as these things go, I'd say.

What a weird (and rather pathetic) post. Is this his version of drunk-dialing some old girlfriend or something?

Paltry, jealous, lacking in constructive things to do... Yep, that sounds about like whoever wrote the original post in this thread. For greater accuracy I'll add narcissistic and supercilious too.

Imagine if the "senpai" (Sean Connery) from the film/book "Rising Sun" had proclaimed his expertise in all things Japan, but then gotten all of them wrong. The movie would have become a comedy very quickly. That's what this guy reminds me of.

Oh, and this is just classic: the characters for aquarium are:

This is contrasted with the kind of sea creatures you have to make move with your hands.

On religion:
Our next stop is Asakusa Kannon temple; I believe the original name was Senso-ji. We see—to my considerable consternation—that this supposed holy place has turned into a rough-and-ready flea market, leading me to again question the faith of the Japanese.

Wait, it wasn't a comedy? I can think of numerous lines from the movie that are hilarious. Harvel Keitel's line about the Japanese businessmen all wanting to fuck the prom queen was good. Sean's line, "I am very O-Koht-Ta!" followed by whatehername translating it, puts most South Park and Family Guy episodes to shame.

Yep, lines like that in the movie were "unintentional comedy". It doesn't get much better than that.

I agree, his accent was truly horrible! There were some great lines like being an "out-of-control gaijin" and calling his partner kohai.

I recently read the book so I can imagine the character properly. Crichton's full of crap, and I think fundamentally wrong about how Japanese companies operate, but it's an interesting read.
