"Metal Samurai" will be the first drama available over the net from a new joint venture between Toei Films and Columbia Music Entertainment. Toei wants to expand the audience for samurai drama, particularly aiming at younger generations. "Metal Samurai" is a comedy which stars Jay Coffman as a foreign heavy metal ronin who defeats the bad guys with his guitar despite not speaking Japanese very well. The story is 25 minutes long and will be made available in 5 minute segments next month.

I saw the press release and then googled around to grab the image. It's good that you asked because I'd forgotten about this and it looks like a good tongue-in-cheek affair worth tracking down.

Better late than never. I just noticed that Metal Samurai was nominated as one of the top 100 Japaneseque Modern projects in 2007. It's J079 in the list. J070 is perfumed toilet paper.
