Not a very standard name he said. I mean, she's a beautiful horse?
...However, on the other hand, for most of Japanese, it looks this decision and her catch copy as 'the most beautiful woman in Japan' was not satisfying. In a short nutshell, she doesn't look so beautiful from views of Japanese men, and maybe women. I remember when Miss Chibana became the second in 2006, this kind of controversy was also raised. Certainly, when I watched Miss Chibana first, my eyes as a gaijin admired her beauty, but my eyes as Japanese just thought there are more beautiful women in Japan.
Why?
It seems there are two ethics on beautiful women in Japan. International one and Internal one. Some characteristic forms which are required in International Standard are not always necessary for the Internal one. For example:
Intelligence:
Internationally beautiful Japanese woman speaks English and other languages. She has a certain vision and always acts thinking about social and international contribution. On the other hand, Internally beautiful woman (like actresses or models in Japan) just loves her country and her mother tongue, and are always thinking about clothes, sweets, and other fashionable things. Even she is actually wise woman who could enter Colombia University, to become popular in Japan, the woman is required to behave like a stupid woman. (Refer to Utada Hikaru.)
Independence:
Internationally beautiful Japanese woman makes their living on their own, and try to walk their own load, on their own feet. Meanwhile, Internally beautiful women are always chasing after what the other women do. And Internationally woman always look like adults, but internationally woman sometime behave like children.
Exoticism:
Internationally beautiful Japanese woman loves her characters as Asian, (for example, narrow eyes, protruding cheekbones), and emphasize those characters to become beautiful. On the other hand, Internally beautiful woman try to conceal all the traces as Asians by all means.
...and so on.
...Especially, exoticism is the main difference of international (especially Western) aesthetics and Japanese one. Whenever I think of this theme, I have to remember the episode of an idol group DRM, used to be called dream.
When its member Yu and Kana visited United States, it was Kana who was popular among American staffs, and Yu was always neglected by them. When they visited Germany, this phenomenon occurred again. However, in the meantime, in Japan, I guess almost 90% of Japanese will choose Yu, when they were given their pictures and said 'Which do you like?' That's why Yu is acting like a solo gravure idol, even though how her boobs are smaller than Kana.
So, these two are best examples. Kana is an internationally beautiful woman, and Yu is an internally beautiful woman. ... it seems I am an international people at this selection. And this two double standards also account for why sometimes handsome Westerners are going out with internally ug.... no, JUST Internationally beautiful Japanese girls.
Anyway, according to some reports, now the committee of Miss Universe Japan is selecting the representative purely to win at the International beauty contest, without depending on the standard of Japanese men and women, but just following the global standard of Miss Universe. And Japan's consecutive winning at Miss Universe is thanks to this shift. They thought Japan can't won the Miss Universe with the chodes of 'internally' Japanese woman.
Aren't there any points to compromise? I mean, I think they can choose a woman who is beautiful, both internally and internationally. For example, How about Aizawa Sayo? I think this actress is the most beautiful woman in Japan today...
... hmm, but well, after I thought twice with my gaijin heart, I came to think she is too Westernized. It's a really very difficult choice.
But I remember Mori won the Miss Universe last year, there weren't so many Japanese who claim she is ugly, especially after they saw the picture without make-ups for the contests. To become the genuine Miss Universe, the woman may have to acquire two kinds beauty, internal one and international one. In other words, literary universal beauty. How about the representative this year? All I could say is, 'She is beautiful, internationally.' ...

I say yes.
