Spielberg 3D Live Action "Ghost In A Shell"

[floatr]Image[/floatr]First Showing: Spielberg Adapting Ghost in the Shell into Live-Action 3D!
After 19 years since its debut in 1989, DreamWorks has finally secured the rights to adapt the Japanese manga and anime series Ghost in the Shell into a 3D live-action feature film. Both Universal and Sony were also chasing the rights, but Steven Spielberg himself took a personal interest in it and made sure it ended up in the hands of his company - DreamWorks. Spielberg says that Ghost in the Shell is one of his favorite stories and is "a genre that has arrived and we enthusiastically welcome it to DreamWorks." This plays off of the announcement from February that Akira, one of the other heralded Japanese anime properties, is being adapted by Warner Brothers as well...more...

Looks like they're running out of ideas ...

Still - I'd be looking forward to it. Transformers wasn't a great movie, but I loved watching it. I think this may be similar.
I broke a mirror this morning, which means I should be getting 7 years of bad luck - but my lawyer says he can get me 5.

It may not be a good movie, but if Spielberg has anything to do with the actual film production, it will almost certainly be fun to watch...

... Maybe JJ Abrams will direct it. ^O^

...Kidding.

If they're really adapting the series, rather than the movies, then I will be pleased.

Jolie can never play Motoko though. Even though I love Jolie, motoko is petite. She has to be petite and visually unimposing for the story to really work. Her, Aramaki and Batou are the only people I would really care about with regard to the casting decisions. Oh, and the voice actors for the tachikoma. They have to be children.
Mr Kobayashi: First, I experienced a sort of overpowering feeling whenever I was in the room with foreigners, not to mention a powerful body odor coming from them. I don't know whether it was a sweat from the heat or a cold sweat, but I remember I was sweating whenever they were around.

I think Christina Ricci would make a good Motoko... or Charlize Theron like in Aeon Flux. If they do the series, that is...

Yeah... or a Chinese like Zhang Ziyi. ;) I think if it's going to be in English the options for good Asian actors are so limited you get what I call the Ken Watanabe effect or the Al Pacino effect. These guys have been in so many movies I see them on screen and I don't even think of them as actors anymore.
