ttjereth wrote:I'm just always amazed at how often their suggestion is an IV drip, I can't recall ever having had a doctor outside of Japan recommend of insist on one for anything other than to accompany surgery...
Samurai_Jerk wrote:I've got an idea: eat healthy, drink less, take a multi-vitamin everyday, and skip the IV.
Charles wrote:You know, I think I had one of these IV shots. My first time over, I caught bronchitis (aggravated by allergies to those damn cedars) and went to a little clinic. I was kind of run down, I figured I'd get some antibiotics to fight lung infection, but they wanted to give me an injection, they described it as a "rejuvenative." I asked them what was in it, they said "it doesn't matter, it's free." Well that's not quite what I asked. So they brought out a like 300ml syringe full of clear fluid and started pumping it into me. Then when that was in, they detached the needle, attached a new syringe and pumped another 300ml in. I figured maybe it was mostly saline, to fight dehydration. But I have no idea what else was in it. It didn't seem to do me any harm (I wish I could say that about the little pills they gave me).
2triky wrote:Aw, man. I was all waiting for a punchline...but I guess you never found out what was in it. Oh well.
Charles wrote:Well it's not like I didn't try. Doctors in Japan aren't used to patients questioning their treatment. When I asked what was in it, he was uncooperative.
When the little nurse came out with this huge syringe, she asked if I was OK with such a big injection. I guess she must have sensed my discomfort when I saw the huge damn syringe. I called it a "horse syringe" like a veterinarian would use, they laughed. The nurse asked again if I was OK with the shot, and I said, "sure, I'm OK, just do it carefully."
I have no idea if the injection was of any use, but I certainly didn't feel rejuvenated.

One 375 ml bottle of Coke or Pepsi
Two antacids
Two acetomediphen tablets (causes less stomach bleeding than aspirin)
Two tablespoons of instant coffee.
1. Pour the soda into a glass, stir in the coffee and acetomediphen.
2. Plop in the antacids...plop don't drop.
3. Mix it quickly, down it ASAP while thinking of anything but how bad it tastes.
4. If you don't puke all over the place, you'll be fine (semi-functional) in 30 minutes. If you puke all over the place, you'll be fine (semi-functional) in 45 minutes.

Acetaminophen and alcohol can create a toxic reaction. Acetaminophen alone is bad enough but with alcohol it can be much worse.
"The National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism notes that liver damage may occur with as little as 2.6 grams of acetaminophen (four to five "extra-strength" pills) taken over the course of the day in persons consuming varying amounts of alcohol (NIAAA, Seeff). The damage caused by alcohol-acetaminophen interaction is more likely to occur when acetaminophen is taken after, rather than before, the alcohol has been metabolized."

Iraira wrote:I included the acetaminophen as I have taken out a rather large life insurance policy on all of you and well....rent is due, so I was just trying to hurry things along, y'know. Don't take it personally, it's just business.
Gilligan wrote:GOOD POINT 2tricky. I was just looking at my bottle of Tylenol PM the other night and on the label it warned, "If you consume 3 or more alcoholic drinks every day, ask your doctor whether you should take acetaminophen ... Acetaminophen may cause liver damage." So I QUICKLY put it back in the medicine cabinet.
