
A popular costume competition at a theme park in Hokuto, Yamanashi Prefecture, has been suspended after an elderly visitor complained that participants dressed up in costumes detracted from the flowers on display there. The park, called Flower Center, Heidi's Village, is popular with many young people for its "cosplay" competitions, where participants dress in elaborate costumes as characters from anime, video games and other pop culture genres. The Yamanashi prefectural government, which owns the park, asked the park's managers to review whether or not the competition should be continued after receiving the complaint...The cosplay event has been held six times since April last year and has become the park's main attraction.
