[floatr]Image[/floatr]Yomiuri: Cosplay event closed after complaint
A popular costume competition at a theme park in Hokuto, Yamanashi Prefecture, has been suspended after an elderly visitor complained that participants dressed up in costumes detracted from the flowers on display there. The park, called Flower Center, Heidi's Village, is popular with many young people for its "cosplay" competitions, where participants dress in elaborate costumes as characters from anime, video games and other pop culture genres. The Yamanashi prefectural government, which owns the park, asked the park's managers to review whether or not the competition should be continued after receiving the complaint...The cosplay event has been held six times since April last year and has become the park's main attraction. The park's managers have even set up changing rooms and held contests...Last summer, an elderly woman called the prefectural agricultural policy planning department, and asked, "How can you hold an event that attracts many young people at a facility where people of all ages come to enjoy flowers?"...more...

How dare other citizens use a publicly funded park!...where do these youngsters get the notion that their taxes should do anything but pay off old farts? Some youngsters should write in saying that the beauty of the flowers is put off by the all old crones walking around.

It's amazing that they'd do this based on one fucking complaint.

It's not just those pesky kids taking over public parks:

Yomiuri: 'Mah-jong enthusiasts monopolize Osaka Pref. park facility'
The Osaka prefectural government has come under fire from residents who allege it has allowed part of a public park in Sakai to be taken over by a select group of mah-jong enthusiasts. The area in question is a facility in Oizumi Ryokuchi park, with tables and chairs set under three wooden shelters surrounded by a lockable fence, that was built by the prefectural government about five years ago after negotiations with the group who have now allegedly commandeered it. The government entrusted the facility's management to a local man, without an official contract, and since then, a group consisting entirely of his personal acquaintances has monopolized the area, prompting complaints from other park users. The 1 million-square-meter park has 11 public rest areas, all furnished with benches and some with tables. Of those, only the 796-square-meter mah-jong area is enclosed by a lockable fence.

According to the government, around 1998 it began receiving complaints about mah-jong and shogi (a chess-like game) players monopolizing another of the park's public rest areas. In response, the government in April 2003 constructed the 19 million yen facility, officially named Tsudoi no Hiroba, specifically to be used for playing mah-jong, and entrusted the key and management responsibilities to the man, who was among the group that inspired the initial flood of complaints. Residents have complained that about 40 acquaintances of the man use the facility on a daily basis, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., as if it were a private mah-jong parlor. A sign on the fence says the facility is open to everybody, but one regular visitor to the park said, "I was told [by the group] that newcomers shouldn't come in, and was turned away." It is impossible to see inside from beyond the fence because of plastic sheets that have been hung around each of the three shelters. Another user of the park said: "Every view of the inside of the area is blocked off. I'm worried about what could be going on in there. It should be made more open."

The government and the Osaka Prefectural Park Association, which has been designated the park's official manager since 2006, have taken no action in response to the complaints, saying that although the situation is not ideal, there is no better way to keep the mah-jong players from interfering with other areas in the park. The profession and age of the man who has been acting as manager are unknown to the two bodies, they said. Furthermore, they said they had not been in direct contact with the man since early June, and that the key to the facility was now being held by his acquaintances. One of the group members, a 75-year-old man, told The Yomiuri Shimbun: "The facility is open to the public and we aren't monopolizing it. We are allowed to play mah-jong there. We don't play in other parts of the park, as agreed. We've observed the rules of the prefectural government."

The cosplay freaks need to sent to a re-eduction camp, and the old people need to STFU as the young people are paying Shiminzei at 30x what the old farts payed to keep the park open.

Japanese Cosplayer Feels Heat For Flashing Taiwanese Police Car
While Japanese cosplayer Ushijima Ii Niku ("Good Meat") was in Taiwan, she caused a media storm after showing up to an event in her underpants. The incident even made the evening news there. But that's not what is pissing of the country's police force.

Ushijima posed for a photo in front of a Taipei squad car. Wearing a short skirt and loose socks, she flashed her panties as looked into the cop car. The image was one in a series of photos Ushijima had taken while in the city: one showed Ushijima revealing her backside in a Taiwanese arcade, another showed her squatting next to a dog and showing her underpants.

The Taipei Police, obviously upset about the squad car photo, released a statement, noting that, "It's possible that the police's image was damaged." In Taiwan, she's been getting attacked online for what she did.

Serious stuff—no wonder the photo, visible above, was scrubbed from Ushijima's Tumblr. The Taiwanese papers, however, are republishing the photo—no doubt fanning the flames...
