Time for us Californians to stand up for our honor. The Japanese know little of big quakes, compared to us. Perhaps this is a topic for a different thread, but I'll throw down the gantlet: what is the biggest quake you personally experienced? I'll start:

5.9, The 1987 Whittier Narrows Quake, I lived about 5 miles from the epicenter.

I'd list the 1983 Coalinga Quake (6.5) but I was too far away for it to count.

It was very early in the morning and the radio said it was a 7.9 somewhere far and a train had derailed in Arizona. It was my first earthquake and in a foreign location. It had shaken really bad and I was on the 20th floor of a hotel. Not very pleasant. So yeah, sorry if I don't have my facts right down to the fucking longitude/latitude shit. Fuck yourself Chukie.

The Richter Scale is logarithmic, so your 7.1 quake was about 1/10th of the magnitude of your claim of 7.9. And Barstow is 100 miles from LA. The official USGS Intensity Map says it was barely felt in LA, effectively somewhere between a 2.0 and a 3.0. But I'm sure you ran out your door, screaming like a little girl.

You're disqualified. For the purposes of this little game, I'll restrict entries to a reasonable radius from the epicenter, like say 25 or 50 miles. Otherwise we'll get idiots like you who claimed they felt the 1964 Alaska 9.2 quake from Florida.
