Okinawa Drinking Bout Broken Up

Postby Mulboyne » Thu Mar 26, 2009 6:06 am

[floatl]Image[/floatl]Police were called to a house in Uruma city, Okinawa following reports that a party was getting out of hand. Inside the house, they found the 12 year old girl who lived there, a 12 year old boy and three fifteen year old middle school girls. All were drunk. It was the first day of the spring school holidays and the girl's parents were both out working. She had hatched a plan with the boy to drink some awamori, a well-known Okinawan liquor which is usually around 60 proof. She used her own pocket money to buy a 720ml bottle from a store near her house and, on the way back home, they bumped into the other three friends who were happy to join the booze-up. The drinks started flowing around 11:00am and, by 1:30pm, the group was inebriated and the party was getting lively. A neighbour heard the clamour and called the police who found the five children and an empty bottle of hard liquor. Police are charging the shopkeeper with selling alcohol to a minor.

That boy is either gay or has some respectable game.

I'd say game. If you can say anything about the Okinawans, it's that they do know how to drink and party....

Damn right it was the combini store owners fault, selling liquor to a kid that young, I know people don't card in Japan but what the hell happened to commen sense on this one? He must have been thinking, "oh they are buying this for their parents, they couldn't be drinking this themselves."

Was he like, oh they want to buy liquor, but you have to be 20 to buy liquor, so they must be 20. Its only a law if you enforce it, otherwise its just words. Like a no-smoking sign, if no one stops the person from smoking, it's just words.
I am not really sure where I am going, I just hope that when I get there, I can sit down because I am sure my feet will be tired.

Amen. People in my area still send their kids to the store to pick up beer and even smokes at the tobakoya, or machine (yes, even give them the taspo card). It ain'ta goina quit. Nor will those quit who are judging them by western standards.

Look, all I am saying is that this country works well on the honor system, these kids took advantage of that and when too many people take advantage of that then maybe changes would be required. I now this was an extreme case with very young kids, but i would hate to hear about my students doing something like this.

I would rather think that it was extreme because they got caught. What age did you have your first jolt? I had my first wine at communion before they got wise to us and started using grape juice, so we quit going to church. Jesus didn't drink grape juice.....

Kids tend to want to try a drink and age really isn't a set thing. It doesn't make it right, but it certainly doesn't make it a mortal sin.....

But it is against the law.
this is Japan, anyone can go to a store and buy alcohol and cigarettes if they want to, but I not saying that its going to become a trend or maybe it already has and i don't know about it, but what if teens are buying liquor more often and some kids get alcohol poissoning and dies, I don't see how being against underage drinking is a western-thing. Some dumb fucking kids get busted for buying and drinking illegally and next thing you know stores could have to require customers to show id to buy smokes or beer. Fucking it up for the rest of us because underage kids are taking advantage of the whole honor system. 20 means 20.

Its just like the whole smoking bans on streets in cities, but since cops don`t stop people from smoking, they might as well not even post the signs.

Well, I guess that pretty well sums it up. Must be quiet out there if Gifu...

What kind of Okinawan home was this that didn't already have a big stash of liquor?

Why's that? Would you rather hear they're wasting their youth in juku and fucking piano lessons? The best memories of my life involve being under age and under the influence with a bunch of drunk cute girls looking to play truth or dare.

12 years is the correct and accepted age for getting pissed and trying fags.
