Immigration Raids On Roppongi Hostess Clubs

Postby Mulboyne » Fri Jun 26, 2009 4:14 pm

[floatr]Image[/floatr]This video news report (Japanese) concerns a series of raids on foreign hostess clubs in Roppongi. It was a large-scale effort covering a total of nine clubs and involved 220 police and immigration officials. So far, the total number arrested for immigration offences is 6. The clip clearly shows the faces of two of the girls while blurring out everybody else. At one point it looks almost like the FNN cameraman has joined them in the back of the van because he gets pretty close. Police say they acted on a tip that the clubs were employing visa overstayers.

Other video reports from TBS here and NTV here. NTV blurs the girls' faces while TBS freeze frames one of them so you can get a good look.

Tax dollars hard at work.

I wonder why they didn't use armed cars. They are foreign hostesses, afterall.

Different rules for gaijin.

I guess the TBS editor though they were hot and the NTV editor thought not.

So what is happening to the club owners?

Also, it was very convenient that the cameras where there when the girls were taken into custody.

Hostess clubs stop paying the police + the police tip those who will pay + those who pay, pay = slow news day made a little faster.

Wow! You guys are really on to something. You all seem to write so casually about it, but you bring up a lot of good points. Am I going too far in assuming that there is some kind of conspiracy here? (Seriously, no sarcasm intended)

I come from a city where they practice "community policing". The locals keep an eye open for "criminals" and 90% of the beat cops in grew up in that neighborhood. Crime is a matter of perspective, if you grew up in that neighborhood and know everyone you can get away with a lot more. I'm sure that the same goes for most of the world.
