That being said, if Jesus were walking the earth today, I think he'd be blown by Maria Ozawa. :p

Fixed for you...

Only the trains (and me) have not laid over her... and for the trains, I'm not even sure but that would explain the scar on her face.

That's what my wife said. At least, Christians have some tradition. They just pulled that shit out of their asses.

I've come to the conclusion that faith is fine but religion sucks.

So gakkai would be acceptable to you if it had been around for another 1000 years or so?

Bullshit is still bullshit AK, and I'm surprised to see you stating otherwise.

It's also a strange thing to say considering Buddhism has been around longer than Christianity.

Yeah, but they're like Mormons. I hate Christianity more than any of you, believe me, it's just that it gets even dumber.

when in an international business setting three topics are totally off limits; religion, politics, and individual countries internal affairs and beliefs. Ozawa fucked up but TIJ, most people here won't give a shit about what he said because it does not have anything to to with their daily lives. Remember: Japan is the center of the universe. If you don't believe me, check any world map published in Japan.

Heaven, where you will spend all eternity in abject servitude and every private thought and action is subject to invigilation, doesn't seem to be a very pleasant alternative. Hitchens has aptly described it as a celestial North Korea and is the reason why he calls himself an "anti-theist", not just an atheist. I have to agree. Who would want such a thing to be true?

Perhaps you are one of those Christians who doesn't believe in Hell. Quite a few of those running around nowadays.

Anyone who believes that Christianity was intended to be symbolic is just ret-conning the whole religion to make it easier to swallow in modern times.

It wasn't symbolic, people just believed really stupid crap back then. It's just more convenient to pretend that some of the stuff was symbolic so it doesn't sound as retarded.

Although my argument wasn't about the intended benevolence of the religion (but about the required level of exclusivity), I don't really think the Dalai Lama is really using the religion to build a vast structure for power/wealth/bitches seeing as how he's just sitting around in The Most Remote Place In the World (Tibet), praying and meditating.

Then again, Buddhism is kind of like an Asian version of Scientology. Founded by some dude who lives in the middle of nowhere in order to find 'enlightenment,' people (meaning, celebrities) give up time, money, etc in order for spiritual guidance...and on the local level, people are making a killing on funerals, bereavement therapy, and...merchandise.

Except for all the lawsuits, murder, cover-ups, and political maneuvering.

When the Lamas controlled Tibet they were exploiting the population which is why a lot of Tibetans helped the Chinese take them down. Unfortunately for Tibet it ended up being a deal with the Devil.

That's actually...really interesting. And ironic.

Of course, the Christian clergy was LUDICROUSLY corrupt in the middle ages... now the worst thing we have is coverups of choir boy abuse.

He isn't actually. He fled to India in 1959 after a failed attempt to retake Tibet from the People's Republic of China, who took control of it in 1951. He's now head of the government-in-exile in Dharamsala, India.

He certainly hasn't been sitting around at home and meditating, either. Up until he announced his semi-retirement in 2008 he constantly toured the world speaking on Tibet and Buddhism.

I wonder what Taro Aso thinks about this, because IIRC, Taro Aso is Roman Catholic.

One interesting thing in Japan is that though there are very few Christians they seem to be in positions of power.

Is that so unusual given the country doesn't have Judeo-Christian roots, as in Europe or the States?

I apologize. I misread your post. I see now you were commenting that despite the dearth of Christians the few around occupy positions of power.

I read your post really quickly and had thought you were saying that it was unusual that there are few Christians in power.
