US Expats Becoming "Toxic Citizens"

...what i'm curious about is these people who renounce citizenship, what country do they become citizens of?...

Jet Li renounced his American citizenship to become Singaporean. Singapore, like Japan, doesn't generally recognize dual citizenship so it seems more likely that he was motivated by wanting a Singaporean passport rather than wanting to ditch his US one. Gong Li is also Singaporean which suggests there's something attractive about the place for wealthy Chinese.

When flying Sing Air a couple weeks ago LAX-NAR-LAX, there were advertisements for a Condo property noting a lack of inheritance and other taxes in Sing....

As for putting people in jail for not paying their taxes.....WTF? Sounds a lot like debtors prisons to me....I thought we were supposed to have gotten rid of those...

I'm screwed either way. My pension will come from the U.S. govt....they're getting their dirty hands on my money one way or another.....

You can go to prison for almost anything in SG. There are 4 basic punishments in SG. 1) Large fine. 2) Caning 3) Large prison sentence 4) death by hanging (this one is particularly quick if they catch you with a bag of weed in the airport).

Developed nation; good hospitals; close to China/HK; run by wealthy Chinese; good Chinese food; clean; safe; low income tax.
