School Recommends Siesta Time

Postby Mulboyne » Sat Jan 15, 2011 1:01 pm

[floatr]Image[/floatr]A school in Fukuoka claims that students perform better when given the opportunity to take a 15 minute nap during the day. A chime sounds at 11:50am and all students are asked to put their head down. The lights are dimmed, the blinds are drawn, and Mozart is played over the speakers. The schools says students are better able to concentrate in the afternoon and exam results have improved since they introduced the break in 2005. They also claim that their students are healthier as a result as trips to the school infirmary have dropped by around 35%.

Those who go to club, juku, eikaiwa, and all that also need about 6 more hours a day to do whatever they want.

Half of them already sleep 15 minutes out of every 50 minute class, so I don't see how another 15 minutes can hurt.

A slight side issue is that the rate of pregnancy among students climbed to 40%, this was not rated as anything serious as the rate among teachers and administrators was at 53%.

Seriously, I think naps went out in first grade or kindy, where I grew up. 15 minutes? Shit! Who the fuck payed for this study and who did they use for their sleeping researchers? Members of the Finance Ministry?

Besides the Mozart, how is this any different from any other class?

i would take it that those students dont fuck about the whole day and are constantly pounding the books...

but if not that, i see it not working at the schools where all the kids sleep anyway and wait for club time to commence.

but looking at their business men and politicians... a nap here and there hasn't fixed one damn problem in this cuntry...

WTF do you call a siesta before lunch?!

Scientists agree: Coffee naps are better than coffee or naps alone
vox.com | August 28, 2014
...
drinking a cup of coffee and then taking a quick nap. This is called a coffee nap.
It might sound crazy: conventional wisdom is that caffeine interferes with sleep. But if you caffeinate immediately before napping and sleep for 20 minutes or less, you can exploit a quirk in the way both sleep and caffeine affect your brain to maximize alertness...
...
the trick of the coffee nap: sleeping naturally clears adenosine from the brain. If you nap for longer than 15 or 20 minutes, your brain is more likely to enter deeper stages of sleep that take some time to recover from. But shorter naps generally don't lead to this so-called "sleep inertia" — and it takes around 20 minutes for the caffeine to get through your gastrointestinal tract and bloodstream anyway.
So if you nap for those 20 minutes, you'll reduce your levels of adenosine just in time for the caffeine to kick in. The caffeine will have less adenosine to compete with, and will thereby be even more effective in making you alert...
...
a Japanese study found that people who took a caffeine nap before taking a series of memory tests performed significantly better on them compared to people who solely took a nap, or took a nap then washed their faces or had a bright light shone in their eyes. They also subjectively rated themselves as less tired.
Interestingly, there's even some evidence that caffeine naps can help people go for relatively long periods without proper sleep.

I find this to be true. It often is a delicate balance that can be difficult to achieve, but when achieved it works a charm. I find the pressure of an impending deadline helps both the quick napping and the relatively quick waking up. Without that mental pressure I usually just sack out and blow the plan.
