The waiter in my usual cigar lounge in Shibuya was pushing that to me the other day but I was in no mood for a whiskey. I will try it this week.

Now that's just being mean friend. Allow me to explain it all for you.

I will allow you to ponder the meaning of my original post while you drink your cheapass shochu, as I drink my fine Suntory Hibiki. See? :ramen:

English is kind of like life in T Town for the TTTokyolios, some of them never get it and end up drinking the shochu - their whole lives. Ironically, they be the english teachers and I talk about this very phenomena in podcast ep 1 and ep 2.

So enjoy your shochu friend.

Kobe beef and Suntory Hibiki for me though.

Taketsuru 21 would be a better whisky, but each to their own I guess. Good shochu is nothing to sniff at either; there are many fine Awamori that can beat a cheap whisky (looking at you Kakubin/Daru)

Kobe Beef on the other hand, after about 200 grams of the shabu shabu slices you start feeling faintly sick due to all the fatty tissue. There is much better beef out there, even in Japan, doesn't have to be a brand name like "Kobe".

Don't knock the shochu, there is more out there than whisky or the cheap moonshine that you're used to. I didn't really want to slap the taste of dick out of your mouth, but damn if you didn't go and make me. Oh snap. :herring:

I took notes on each drink today, and apparently I sampled about 29 different whiskies and bourbons, plus a couple of beers. Can't say I remember much of it in detail, but I think I had a pretty good time.

Kind of fun to see how my handwriting steadily devolved as the day went on.

'Unique' Scotch whisky to help Japan disaster victims

Postby CrankyBastard » Mon Apr 25, 2011 3:53 pm

A unique whisky made by seven independent Scottish distilleries to raise money for the disaster relief effort in Japan has almost sold out - before it has even been bottled.

Christmas is right around the corner. This year, I've decided to put a few whisky brands on my wish list. My girlfriend is going on a trip, which of course allows her to enter the magnificent Duty Free at the airport :D

Over the years I've tried a lot of different whiskies, but I always seem to forget the name of the brands(I wonder why). I think it's a shame that I can't name any scotch single malts that I like, just because I've forgotten what I've tried.

What I do remember though, is what people have suggested that should I try out. Here is a list over a few single malts. Which one would you suggest that I try? Oh, I guess it's worth mentioning that I really like the taste of Bushmills(Irish single malt), which is the last whisky I tried out. I also like Jameson.

Anyways, here are the candidates:

* Bowmore Surf Single Malt
* Bowmore Enigma, 12 years
* Glenfiddich Rich Oak, 14yo, Single Malt Scotch Whisky
* Glenfiddich, 15 years
* Glenkinchie, 12 years, Lowland Malt
* Highland Park, Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Vintage 1998
* The Glenlivet, 12 years
* The Glenlivet, 15 years
* The Macallan Select Oak

If you are patient you can usually find Yamazaki 12 Year for about 5000 yen a bottle if you buy 3 or more, on YJ. Down to 1.5 bottles. Might need to restock.

Haven't tried the 18 year yet. Is it really that much better?
