Postby AlbertSiegel » Thu Sep 11, 2003 1:58 am

I did a search with no luck. My question is, where can I find reallly cheap flights from the US to Japan? So far, I have found $528 from LA to Nagoya or Tokyo. I would like to find one from Miami. I would be very thankful for any help.

Use find a cheap connecting flight from Miami to LA, or chicago or NY or Houston (these are main hubs to japan) You keep the tickets seperate, even seperate airlines. Right now you should be able to fly to Houston for 60-100 dollars.

$528 from LA to Tokyo! Who's selling that? I assume it's only for the slow Sept-October period. :?

I'm sure it's a round-trip/return ticket since it's one-way is rare.

The flight takes 9-10 hours <or> 3 movies, one infight magazine, two meals, one snack, and 2-3 toilet calls.

That is an awesome fare if that is return.. I would take it quickly before the price goes up!!

On my recent US trip via SFO I had the worst flight ever with United.. have vowed and declared not to fly with them again..

I am usually a great passenger.. easy to please, not demanding of any special attention. But I (and the rest of the poor sods in cattle class) were treated with such distain that I resented paying over the $1,200 for such bad service.

Well I did say, "Think of it as going to a new high school---it's a chance to remake yourself (or fall in the same rut)." BUT I'm sure other wiser FG will say that, "Japan is a chance to remake yourself (or fall in a NEW rut )."

Thank you everyone!! This is the most support I have found about this crazy idea of mine! My on/off again girlfriend of 5 years thinks I am nuts and going to back out at the last second. I told her no chance (just to make me feel good as she loves to destroy my dreams with reality) and she not see me for some time. She just replied with "all she needs to do is tell me she wants back and I will come"!! That is the sort of thing that may keep me in Japan!! LOL!!!

That is because we are all as crazy as you!!

I mean we are almost a sub-culture.. people that for whatever reason are living in Japan even though not necessarily born here or of Japanese nationality..

About the g/f.. a bit arrogant don't you think???

i say go for it!

my dad joined the merchant navy in his teens and went round the globe a good few times, including seeing kobe at an interesting point in time..

personally , when i should have done the same, i had a jekyll/hyde youth, half otaki, half drink/drugs bohemian, tho should have just gone off and travelled instead of frittering the money away.. ahhh youth!

I don't know... I have been asked that by everyone I know. All the girlfriends/dates I have had over the last 6 years have been with either German or Russian women. There was one Columbian and one Japanese woman, but most were German or Russian. The funny thing is each one of these women told me the same thing... they each thought that my mother was from their country.

I dont really have any photos of Etsuko or Katja #2 (there was more than 1 Katja). You can see the photos I do have along with some of my friends at my web site. http://www.albertsiegel.com

BTW... I nearly forgot... I am still looking for a good tip on cheap flights.. There is one I ran across once that was mainly flights to Japan. Really simple looking web site. Started with a "J"... Does anyone know what I am looking for?

It'd Hideout, not Hidden. Don't want you getting lost as soon as you arrive. :)

Though that could make for an interesting FG initiation ritual. Tell a new FG to meet you at a bar/club, but give them a slightly wrong name. They'd have a pre-made FG story to tell right off the bat!

(You can check out Rob's Hideout Bar tribute video here.)

CONGRADS!

Quick question:
Did you buy directly from Continental Airlines website? (if so, I'll buy tickets tonight cause the late Nov date and 6 month open return look good to me)

Thanks for the info! That could make things fun to look for a place without the correct name. I am on my way to be a FG!

Thank you! All is paid. All I need to do now is finish up my packing and storage here and wait 8 more weeks!

Taro, I hope you will join me, Rob and anyone who will come for a drink.

BTW, can anyone tell me about the Japanese electrical outlet? Will I be able to plug in my laptop that has the three pin (ground) type of plug? What about my DV cam that is 110v @ 60hz? It is a Sharp, can I just buy a AC plug for it there? Maybe someone can post a picture of a Japanese electrical outlet.

Same as US plug and voltage but uses 2 pin not 3 pin.

umm... what do I do with my 3 pin laptop plug? How can I use it? does the 2 pin outlet in Japan have the left side a bit larger than the right like the US?

You can get the 3-prong to 2-prong convertor in ANY electric shop, no sweat. . Hell, I even saw one in my 7-11 this morning. <OR> you can "borrow" one from Rob Pongi's AV equipment at the Hideout...he's too tipsy to notice while we're all having a drink together. :hehe:

Buy a $2 converter would be my suggestion.
